Sitting here staring at my notes and wondering where even to begin. What a week it’s been! Top news, of course, is the tearful breakup of Trump and Musk, like two young teens ending their romance in a screaming match in the school cafeteria with everyone looking on. In case you missed anything, here’s the NYT compendium of yesterday’s exchange of insults (readable). From there we go on:
x So it continues. Trump plans to sell his Tesla. Lol 😂 — Alt National Park Service (@altnps.bsky.social) June 6, 2025 at 9:10 AM
===
Musk threatened to decommission his SpaceX Dragon craft. He walked that back, fortunately. NASA depends on SpaceX now for transit to the ISS.
Elon Musk seemingly backed down from a threat to decommission SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft that ferries cargo and people to the International Space Station for the US, made during an escalation of a spat between the billionaire and President Donald Trump.

The whole bicker battle stressed Truth Social and Trump’s page crashed with such an apt message.
Once Trump's page crashed, users could only see the following very appropriate message: "No Truths. When this user composes a Truth, or ReTruths, you will see it here."
===
Yesterday Steve Bannon agreed with Musk’s assessment of the Big Beautiful Bill ("a disgusting abomination") but he’s not siding with Musk in this fight.
And Musk is not siding with him either, so there.
===
Why should Musk fuss? He got what he came for.
x In just 130 days, Elon... -Secured even more contracts -Derailed at least 40 fed investigations of his corporations -Gutted agencies that regulate his business -Installed loyalists throughout the government Elon has fallen out with Trump, but he got exactly what he wanted. — Robert Reich (@rbreich.bsky.social) June 6, 2025 at 3:00 PM
===
x How long until Musk sets up a superpac to defeat GOP House members and Senators voting for Trump's budget bill?😂 — Marc Elias (@marcelias.bsky.social) June 5, 2025 at 12:46 PM
===
But Trump can use presidential powers to avenge himself on Musk’s companies in a variety of ways. And New York Times suggests that he can
Investigate Mr. Musk’s immigration status and drug use. Mr. Bannon called on Thursday for a “formal investigation of his immigration status, because I am of the strong belief that he is an illegal alien, and he should be deported from the country immediately.” Mr. Musk is a naturalized U.S. citizen who was born in South Africa. Mr. Bannon also called for an investigation into Mr. Musk’s drug use and his efforts to be briefed on classified information about military plans involving China.

Snark abounds.
x Twitter: this is how men with huge balls fight. This is what masculinity looks like Bluesky: this is the first messy breakup of pride month — Laura Bassett (@lebassett.bsky.social) June 5, 2025 at 6:26 PM
===
In other news, if you thought “five things you did last week” was bad, now federal employees are assigned a loyalty essay.
x Federal employees can and should be allowed to critique the government they work for without fearing for their jobs.

The House sent the Big Beautiful Bill to the Senate. Now they’re filled with regrets. They were so busy shouting its praises that they didn’t have time to read what it said. Now they regret signing up for the part about restricting regulations on AI and the part about protecting the president against contempt of court. And this. Would it be constitutional for them to ask the Senate to just give them do-overs?
x 👀 13 House Republicans who voted FOR the One Big Beautiful Bill Act are now asking the Senate to scale back and “mitigate” the negative impacts of their clean energy funding cuts. Letter is led by Rep. Jen Kiggans, R-Va.

Trump is having a mad and taking it out on California. Any bets on whether he gets away with this?
x California, btw, is a donor state - it pays almost 90 billion dollars more in federal taxes than it gets back

In immigration news...
x We used to have laws that prevent the use of our military against US citizens on United States soil. The Posse Comitatus Act is a US federal law that generally prohibits the use of the US military for domestic law enforcement purposes. Trump ignores the law, though, so who knows what comes next?

A deportation is going sideways so badly that even the folks managing this program of cruelty are regretting that they did this.
===
But there’s a bright spot:
He faces charges but how many top lawyers will offer to take this famous case pro bono?
===
This must be The Onion. <Looking.> No, it’s NBC News. Used to be I could tell satire from real news but lately I’m slipping.

Are you going to Washington on the day of the big birthday parade? You might rethink that.
x Trump is closing a major airport to accommodate a military parade for his birthday – the parade is estimated to cost as much as $45 million. This coming from the president who said little girls are fine with 2 dolls not 30. www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

Why would you want to go to Washington anyway? Check the resistance links above and find a “No Kings” protest in your neighborhood. You could hang out with friends that Saturday.

Today is D-Day, the beginning of the end of WWII.

x America did not storm the beaches at Normandy alone on June 6, 1944. We had allies who fought with us. Allies from Britain, Canada, Australia, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, France, Greece, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), and Poland. open.substack.com/pub/charlies...
