The Daily Show roasts Senator Schumer's TACO delivery [1]

Senator Schumer attacked the Trump regime with the TACO meme to try to disrupt ongoing negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program. Schumer posted a video online demanding no secret side deals and don’t TACO on Iran. Here’s the full text of his video message below:

When it comes to negotiating with the terrorist government of Iran, Trump’s all over the lot. One day he sounds tough, the next day he’s backing off. And now, all of a sudden, we find out that Witkoff and Rubio are negotiating a secret side deal with Iran. What kind of bull is this? They’re gonna sound tough in public and then have a side deal that lets Iran get away with everything? That’s outrageous. We need to make that side deal public. Any side deal should be before Congress and most importantly the American people. If TACO Trump is already folding, the American public should know about it. No side deals.

The senator’s video message went viral but not in a good way for the hawkish Democrat. Schumer’s tweet received so much negative feedback even The Daily Show got in on the viral clap back.

“When your message is connecting with your audience,” read the Daily Show’s version of Schumer’s video. The Daily Show played the first few seconds of Schumer’s clip and then, using the Star Wars theme song and imagery from the opening credits, showed the comments users left for Schumer.

Schumer also received push back from journalists and political pundits on social media.

The video also received a lot of commentary from journalists and pundits. Congressional correspondent Marc Rod reacted, “What Schumer is saying here about any side deals with Iran needing to come before Congress is practically verbatim from the GOP talking points a couple of years ago under Biden.” Former Bernie Sanders advisor Matt Duss added, “Schumer was wrong to try and kill Obama’s Iran deal. He’d be wrong to try and kill Trump’s.”

Schumer’s aggressive stance on negotiating with Iran were ramped up after Trump’s lucrative deal-making tour of the Gulf States, lifting of sanctions on Syria and agreeing to a ceasefire with the Houthis in Yemen last month.

The Democratic leader's remarks came after Axios reported that the US proposed a plan to Iran over the weekend which would permit Tehran to pursue "limited low-level uranium enrichment" for a period of time. Schumer's criticism appeared to fall in line with Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu, who has been pushing for an all-out war with Iran, despite a majority of Americans favoring a negotiated settlement.
