['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.']
Date: 2025-06-05
Senator Raphael Warnock is one of four members of the CBC currently serving in the US Senate. He’s the only Black US Senator ever elected from Georgia and one of only 14 Black people ever elected or appointed to serve in the US Senate. He and Senator John Ossoff are the first Democrats elected to the US Senate from Georgia since Zell Miller in 2000 and Senator Warnock is the first Black Democratic Senator ever elected from a Southern state.
Elected in the 2020/2021 special election, Senator Warnock defeated incumbent, Kelly Loeffler. Senator Raphael Warnock was re-elected to a full term in 2022, defeating Republican nominee, Herschel Walker. At the same time as serving as Senator, Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock also serves as Senior Pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, where Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. served as pastor.
During his tenure, Senator Raphael Warnock has sponsored six bills, enacted into law. These include a bill capping drug costs for Seniors, a bill to improve maternal health quality and a bill requiring the Comptroller General of the United States to conduct a study on disparities associated with race and ethnicity respecting benefits administered by the Secretary of the Veterans Affairs. So far, in the 119th Congress, Senator Warnock has sponsored 31 bills or amendments.
Senator Warnock serves on the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs and as Ranking Member on the Economic Policy and member of the Financial Institutions and Consumer Protection subcommittees of that committee; the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, & Forestry and as member of the subcommittees on Rural Development, Energy, and Credit; Conservation, Forestry, Natural Resources, and Biotechnology; and Food and Nutrition, Specialty Crops, Organics and Research of that committee, and on the Senate Special Committee on Aging.
Senator Warnock is a doer. He legislates, participates in committee meetings, holds town halls, is a frequent user of social media, and makes regular appearances on the MSM.
