Morning Open Thread: The Tonys Are Almost Here! [1]

If you’ve cut the cord but want to watch anyway, free, Matthew Hardy, who reviews shows on YouTube, has said he’ll be live-streaming it. Again, it will run from 6-9 p.m. Mountain time, this coming Sunday.
Now, here are the nominees for Best Musical.
Buena Vista Social Club
This show has been lauded for its music and choreography. The lead actress, Natalie Venetia Belcon,, who has received excellent reviews, alas got nominated in the “Best Supporting” category. I didn’t find her in a good YouTube clip, unfortunately.

Megan Hilty and the Company perform “For the Gaze.” This show is wow-ing them, with 10 Tony nominations and an apparently wild tumble down a big staircase.

Maybe Happy Ending
My hunch is, this one will win Best Musical — it has 10 nominations and enormous buzz — the feel-good musical of the season. Also, it’s not based on a movie.

Operation Mincemeat
This one’s an import from the West End, where it won Best New Musical at the Olivier Awards. It’s based on an actual British WWII operation — with a comic spin — and is the show I would most like to see.
