The Hall of World War II in the Tillamook Air Museum in Tillamook, Oregon is a huge exhibit showing World War II in models. One of the exhibits featured the Battle of Midway which took place from June 4-7, 1942.

The battle took place near Midway Atoll. The Japanese intent was to capture Midway and draw out the U.S. Pacific Fleet and destroy the U.S. aircraft carriers. Having broken Japanese coded messages, the U.S. was aware of the plan and surprised the Japanese fleet with an attack by land-based planes from Midway and carrier-based planes from three U.S. aircraft carriers. In the battle, four Japanese carriers and one heavy cruiser were sunk. The U.S. lost a carrier and a destroyer. This was a decisive Japanese defeat.
