Just thinking, one difference between trump rhetoric and democratic rhetoric is active vs passive. Trump promises that he will do things, democrats promise that they will defend the status quo.

of course most readers here will disagree with the plans trump has. But I think maybe voters respond to promises of action. They like the feeling that change is in the air and things are getting done.
