Tim Walz says we need to get mean [1]

It's not Walz in the park for Tim.

Tim always had it right when he said that Trump and Vance were weird. It should have been turned into a campaign slogan on merchandise. It was successful. Who told him to stop saying it?

I thought we needed to use Republican's tactics against them. By that, I meant to point out Trump and Vance's ridiculous and racist comments and don't let them get away with them. Keep repeating them. Personal attacks like Trump and Vance used were not necessary. Trump's ads were against Kamala over following the law about trans, her laugh, and when she said that she wouldn't have done anything different if she had been president instead of Biden.

They didn't go after Tim Walz. They didn't need to. The best they came up with was "Tampon" Tim, because Minnesota had a law that female health products had to be available in schools.

Tim sees that the Democratic Party needs to get it's act together. Tim says they need to "be a little meaner."

More to the point, they need to "bully the shit" out of Donald Trump in order to get the right legislation passed.

"Oh, the governor's being mean, well, maybe it's time for us to be a little meaner, maybe it's time for us to be a little more fierce. We have to ferociously push back on this... the thing that bothers a teacher more than anything else is a bully."

When the bully is a child, you teach them why bullying is wrong. But when the "bully is an adult like Donald Trump, you bully... him back. At heart, this is a weak, cruel man."

Clip of Walz at event at the South Carolina Democratic Party (YouTube), on Saturday.

"The story of Trump's second term is already clear to all of us. Everthing this guy does has two motivations. It's either cruelty or corrumption. He's not a complicated guy. Ripping away your healthcare, that's cruelty. Cutting taxes for his billionaire buddies, that's the corruption. Tariffs, blowing up all of our budgets and destroying small businesses, that's cruelty. A free jet from Qatar, that's the corruption. Disappearing people off the streets, that's the cruelty. Selling access to crypto bros, that's the corruption. And those bastards didn't even get a decent steak."

Tim Walz doing the commencement address 12 days ago at the Minnesota School of Law at Minnesota University (YouTube). Without a teleprompter.

"Surrender it to Donald Trump? A guy who's only knowledge of the law is being a criminal defendant himself."

On the Qatari 747:

"This palace in the sky he's getting from the Qatari government...it's a flying bribe, blatently unconstitutional. Even worse, this whole deal was signed off on by the Attorney General of the United States... famously an independent job, but now the Attorney General Pam Bondi is acting as the president's personal attorney, and weirdly enough, coincidentally enough, she happens to be a lobbyist for the government of Qatar. This is what the crumbling of the rule of law looks like in real time."

"A tyrant abusing power to persecute scapegoats and personal enemies. Look I get it. There's nervous folks on my side of the aisle. Don't want to touch it. Oh, I hear it, the polling really sucks talking about this. It's a distraction from more important issues. Consultants say steer away from talking about the rule of law stuff. But, caring about this isn't partisanship or politics, it's about patriotism. The rule of law is the whole ball game."

The executive orders against law firms:

"Getting singled out by executive orders would scare the crap out of you. Trust me, I get it. I know it probably spooked their clients. Those executive orders carry about the same quality of constitutional authority as a ransom note. The quality of writing is about the same too. These firms are home to some of the nation's top flight lawyers. These are folks who know how to throw a punch.... but, some of the biggest firms, I know you know who I'm talking about, they caved. I hope you haven't signed with them yet. Those feckless firms let Donald Trump shove them into a locker. Now they're at his beck and call to do his dirty work for free... that means letting those firms know that they screwed up, by refusing to work for them or with them....That means screaming at the top of your lungs to call an abuse of power wherever you see it, and especially amidst elected officials."

I left out all the times there was applause and laughter.

With Chris Hayes on April 16th (YouTube):

"This whole thing with Abrego Garcia, it's that old wisdom, it's terrifying. If you are not speaking up for this man, there will be no one left to speak up for you." Shades of Martin Niemöller.

"He has talked in the past about nuclear war being winnable. The tariffs... if he talks about it, he plans on doing it."

Democratic leaders need to be listening to people like Tim Walz, like Jasmine Crockett, like Maxwell Frost, young and old alike. It's about not knuckling under and letting Trump get away with new crimes that pile up so fast people don't know what to do.

Get a lot meaner. Bully the bully back. Always point out Trump's cruelty and corruption. Don't allow media to sane-wash what Trump says. His cognitive decline needs to be pointed out at his every appearance.

Like Tim said, we're dealing with a cruel and corrupt bully, who is weak in his mind. It's time to bully back.
