It’s About Them, Not Him.
Its about the community of Plains and their collective efforts that managed to lift up one of their own into the White House.
Carter Country follows the two-year journey of America's most unlikely Presidential candidate Jimmy Carter and his small town that followed him every step of the way. This documentary seeks to capture the forgotten spirit of 1976, the last great Presidential election of the 20th century, when a small town in Georgia suddenly became the political capital of the world.
There is a power, a nostalgic pull of this election, this candidate, and this incredible community.
Every Carter documentary tends to focus solely on him, his presidency, or his post-presidency, but the story of his community and the 1976 election are not typically explored and has never been a feature documentary.
In this period of pronounced political violence and cynicism, there is something compelling and earnest about this kind of political story.

INDIEGOGO
The central question this documentary asks is if something so extraordinary as
the election of an outsider like Jimmy Carter is still possible? It is a central
component of the American dream, the notion that anyone can achieve such
heights. Yet, our Presidents and our elected officials have never been more
distant or foreign. The cost of getting elected to any position is too taxing for
most citizens and few school children now dare to dream that elected national
service is remotely possible.
I THINK IT IS STILL POSSIBLE! I THINK IT IS STILL POSSIBLE FOR A GROUP OF OUTSIDERS TO TAKE ON THE SYSTEM AND WIN.
So as much as we love Jimmy Carter and We do! The main focus of this documentary is not about him — Its about them.
Its about the town that believed in him, that always worked to support and lift him up.
Its about the Presidential Hometown of Plains and the extraordinary people who reside there.
