Boulder - An Update in the Colorado State Open Thread for 6/2/2025 [1]

I’ve written before how the Colorado State Open Thread is a place for people who have a shared interest in our square(ish) state of Colorado can come together and talk about stories, what’s going on, upcoming events, art, music, and generally the good life we have here in one of the best states in one of the best countries on the planet. It can also be a place to come and find comfort with people who may have shared experiences of both good and sad times and may wish to express those feelings, or just even read other people’s stories without speaking up. Nobody has to speak up if they don’t want to.
Over the years of writing on this blog, I have written of a few tragedies that have taken place in Colorado where loners have chosen to hurt others — sometimes multiple people, sometimes single victims, and I pledge to always be here as a voice to be someone to communicate with. I’m not a therapist — in the case of this most recent event in Boulder, he wouldn’t have been interested in what I had to say anyway, but perhaps those he affected may wish to reach out and those are the people I’m willing to talk with, or find someone who is a professional therapist who can talk with you. I won’t leave you hanging if you need someone to talk with.
There have been a number of diaries on DailyKos today updating the news as there have been developments in the story. As I had dinner, I watched 9News and NBC News and was updated with some of the following information.
12 people, not just 8, were injured
16 Molotov cocktails were available to the attacker, but he didn’t get a chance to use them
The attack was planned for more than a year.
He sprayed gasoline onto himself, expecting flames to spread onto himself and die in the attack
There are more details in the 9News report, and I encourage you to watch the short report.
CBS4 in Denver’s article is here. Much is the same, but it has more information on the suspect’s history in Colorado and his employment history.
The Denver Post article from today is here (shareable link). Again, much is the same, but they have some more on the court appearance as well as some details on the backpack sprayer that has been characterized as a “flamethrower”.
A second Denver Post article (different shareable link) describes what they found when they interviewed people in the suspect’s neighborhood in Colorado Springs neighborhood as well as some information on the victims.
The Colorado Sun article has some different interviews and it has some different reports from overseas.
I wish I didn’t get to keep doing this kind of reporting from Colorado, but I gather you wish you didn’t get to keep reading this kind of reporting from Colorado.
Please think happier thoughts and write about where you’ll be protesting for No Kings Day on June 14th two Saturdays from now.
Until then, the floor is yours...
