We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: Arizona Native Democrats (AND) should be the model for Democratic organizing across the country. Why? Because our approach drives direct policy change — not just campaign wins.
Just a few weeks ago, Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs signed “Emily’s Law,” a major step forward in addressing the crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous people (MMIP). The law establishes the Turquoise Alert System, a rapid response mechanism to broadcast alerts when Indigenous individuals under 65 go missing under suspicious or dangerous circumstances.
It’s named in memory of Emily Pike, a 14-year-old girl from the San Carlos Apache community who went missing in January and was found cruelly dead more than 100 miles away a month later. Her story is heartbreaking — and sadly, not unique. For too long, Indigenous victims have been excluded and ignored by the justice system.
So, what does this have to do with Arizona Native Democrats?
Everything.
Unlike traditional political operations that revolve around candidates and soundbites, we at AND organize around issues. Through our Café 6 listening series, crowd canvassing, and community organizing, we prioritize what matters most to voters — and ensure they’re connected to the advocacy tools and people who can bring real change.
Our model doesn’t stop at voter registration. We help communities organize around issues, build coalitions, and pressure decision-makers. We connect voters with their elected officials, policy experts, and resources. And when change happens — like with Emily’s Law — our communities know exactly who stood by them and who didn’t.
When election season arrives, our organizing means that voters already know who has earned their support. Victory on sovereign lands isn’t determined by who aired the most ads — it’s determined by who showed up, listened, and took action.
Time and time again, Democratic lawmakers prove to be the strongest legislative allies for Indigenous communities. But those relationships don’t happen overnight — they’re built through years of trust and sustained work on the ground. This is what Arizona Native Democrats do, and why we succeed where traditional campaigns often fall short.
This is how Democrats must win — not just in Arizona, but everywhere.
We don’t need more TV ads. We need more organizers in the field . We need leaders who show up in our communities, listen first, and then solve real problems — in Phoenix and in Washington.
Because when Democrats show up, we win.
When they listen to voters, we win.
When they solve problems, we win.
Help us continue to solve problems for ALL Americans. Donate to Arizona Native Democrats today.
