An appeal to humanity [1]

There’s a story out there of a child receiving medical care not available in her country being sent back, she will die. She’s 4

At the end of the day, I don’t care who you voted for, I care that because this man won, humanity has lost. For this child is but one of 100’s with medical conditions being sent back to an almost certain death. They are not “illegals”, they are children.
There are fathers and mothers, being taken away from their children abruptly without warning because they were following the law, and going to their appointed meetings only to be grabbed and deported or detained. And their children are left asking “where’s mommy? Where’s daddy?” I don’t care what your stance on immigration is, this is inhumane.
Hundreds of thousands of people were fired without warning. These are American citizens, they have families to feed, to clothes, to take care of and from one day to the next found themselves unemployed, because of a man’s whim.
Around the world, children and people who depended on food and medical treatments from USAID a humanitarian project, have died when again that project was cut without warning, not even a couple of months to allow them to search for other solutions. This is a crime. No matter your views on humanitarian aid and the US’s role in it. This is not how it should have been handled, and if you can’t admit that, you are part of the problem.
Cutting off benefits willy nilly based on some “abled bodied” label, is inhumane, for one does not know without asking why an abled bodied person is receiving aid. A mother might be abled bodied but is the sole caretaker of a child who is not abled bodied so she herself cannot work. I’m able bodied but I can’t stand for more than 10 minutes without vertigo (don’t worry I’m not receiving any benefits).
We are making decisions choosing which American children will get to eat or not, which are worthy of life or not… without blinking an eyelid… we are letting this happen with very little pushback.
Abandoning your ally in the middle of a war, after you had signed a treaty saying you’d protect them if they gave up their nuclear arsenal is wrong. It’s worse, it’s cowardly and hypocritical. Stopping their intelligence reports and supporting instead their attacker is vile. Is this what we now stand for?
We are waging a war against students, tourists, citizens, immigrants, scientists, the climate… for heaven’s sake we are decimating research into how to cure diseases and how to predict weather events not only around the world, but inside our very own country putting millions in the path of danger.
In the last few months, the US has become a horror show a twisted monster fighting its own citizens and its own ideals, and while I was never under the impression that the US was “the greatest country in the world” what we are today is the stuff of nightmares. It seems that we are being governed by psychopaths and sociopaths and we are just going on about our lives for the most part as if nothing was wrong.
I don’t know where we went wrong, how so much hate was unleashed in such short time and I really at this point do not care. We need to get back to being human beings with hearts and feelings and caring. We need to bring humanity back into government. We are lost.
On July 4th, 2025 we are preparing to celebrate our 250th anniversary of independence… while we are losing rights and freedoms every single day.
I know a lot of people are scared of losing their jobs so they don’t want to protests or even lock the country down… I know lots of people who voted for that, are now horrified at what they’ve unleashed, they didn’t think things through to their logical conclusion.
So how about a symbolic protest? How about a protest that’s visual, cost nothing but would signify you are against what’s happening, a symbol that will tell your neighbors, you regret your choice and if you didn’t vote for this, that will let others know they are not alone, you see what’s happening. This can have two effects, it can mend bridges, and it will show you that you’re not as alone as you think.
Protest July 4th itself. Hang your flag, upside down outside, in distress, in your window (or anywhere visible from the outside), put it as a place holder on your social media, don’t do the fireworks, the celebrations, nothing… just stay home and hang your flag upside down. Because between you and me, you have got to find the courage to do at least one thing to break the damn.
On July 4th, do not celebrate
On July 4th, protest
