Sunday 6/1 edition of lots and lots and lots of Democrats in action! [1]

['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.']

Date: 2025-06-01

This series is born out of frustration with seeing people on social media and this site say, “Where are the Dems?” or “What are the Dems doing?” This is not meant as an exhaustive list, but merely as a highlight of the types of the activities and statements they’re doing and making.

A big welcome to all of you who are new to this series, which I publish Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Please, before you complain about the party, take a few minutes of time to see if your concerns are being addressed. Also, if you’re only interested in complaining you might want to comment in the diaries that are designed for complaining.

Please support the following Daily Kos authors. Follow the Democratic Party Spotlight Group here to find these stories easily in your Stream (DK Inbox for diaries).

Democratic Daily Download

x On today’s Democratic Daily Download, Rep. Josh Harder explains how devastating Medicaid cuts in the Republican tax bill will be for families and communities across America. That’s why Democrats are fighting back with all we’ve got.

x On today’s Democratic Daily Download, Rep. Robert Garcia discusses the GOP's latest attack on the American people, handing huge tax breaks for billionaires while slashing health care and basic needs programs for working class people. Democrats will keep fighting to stop this scam.

[image or embed] — House Democrats (@housedemocrats.bsky.social) May 29, 2025 at 11:03 AM

Chair Ken Martin and @Democrats.

x We joined the @dscc.bsky.social and @electdemocrats.bsky.social in filing a motion with the Supreme Court to prevent billionaires from controlling our elections. The people should have the loudest voice in our democracy. We won’t allow Republicans to pave the way for the ultra-wealthy to rig it.

[image or embed] — Ken Martin (@kenmartin.bsky.social) May 30, 2025 at 2:03 PM

x Not giving a shit that your constituents will die just to give more money to druggie billionaires like Elon. That’s the Republican Party.

[image or embed] — Ken Martin (@kenmartin.bsky.social) May 30, 2025 at 8:20 AM

x For me, the Democratic Party’s mission comes down to three words: Make Life Better. For workers. For families. For seniors.

It’s simple—but it’s serious as hell. — Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta (@malcolmkenyatta) May 25, 2025

Democrats doing Democratic things…

Joni Ernst getting called out, rightly so.

x Republicans in Congress are saying out loud they don't care if people die because of their Medicaid and SNAP cuts. https://t.co/CQSHAjHWN7 — Rep. Don Beyer (@RepDonBeyer) May 30, 2025

x Oversight is not optional. We will not stand by while Trump shreds the constitution, treats people with cruelty and spreads fear across the nation. I will not back away from this fight.

[image or embed] — Congresswoman Maxine Dexter, M.D. (@repdexteror.bsky.social) May 30, 2025 at 6:47 PM

x We are here at the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma to conduct oversight — a duty we have as members of Congress. Grateful to do this work with colleagues like @jayapal.house.gov @repdexteror.bsky.social. We will keep you posted.

[image or embed] — Rep. Emily Randall (@repemilyrandall.bsky.social) May 30, 2025 at 3:53 PM

x I introduced my bill to allow state and local governments to impose a sales tax on purchases at gift shops on federal property.

This would be an important revenue source for DC, which hosts a number of gift shops on federal property and millions of visitors annually. pic.twitter.com/ObaO5Cf2Yn — Eleanor #DCStatehood Holmes Norton (@EleanorNorton) May 29, 2025

x Elon came to Washington thinking he could run the government like one of his companies—firing people left and right, gutting essential services, and tearing this shit up from the ground up.

What he did is the definition of waste, fraud, and abuse.

It’s time for a full… https://t.co/pZFlOdk53B — Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (@RepJasmine) May 29, 2025

x We checked, it’s true. The Republican tax bill gives millionaires and billionaires a massive tax handout. A handout that is 310 times larger than what people making under $50,000 get. @repgwenmoore.bsky.social:

[image or embed] — Ways and Means Committee Democrats (@waysmeanscmte.bsky.social) May 29, 2025 at 2:31 PM

x The latest report on Elon Musk’s drug use is exactly why I introduced a bill requiring drug testing for him and his DOGE staff.

If you’re going to play pretend as a Special Government Employee with access to highly sensitive information, the bare minimum should be sound… pic.twitter.com/fVOXK3g0fs — Rep. Mikie Sherrill (@RepSherrill) May 30, 2025

x The amount of money Trump is stuffing into his pockets is unprecedented and unfortunately barely noticed. But what really pisses me off is he's making hundreds of millions of dollars while taking food from kids, jobs from veterans, and health care from people with disabilities.

[image or embed] — Captain Mark Kelly (@captmarkkelly.bsky.social) May 29, 2025 at 5:37 PM

x Our next #AANHPI Heritage Month spotlight is Democratic Caucus Vice Chair @reptedlieu.bsky.social, the highest-ranking Asian American to serve in House Leadership.

Here is what he is doing to advocate on behalf of our AANHPI communities. ⬇️

[image or embed] — CAPAC (@capac.house.gov) May 29, 2025 at 3:32 PM

x Trump & DOGE’s mass firings are having real impacts: longer Social Security wait times, delayed veterans’ benefits, disrupted disaster response, & much more. Democrats are calling for an investigation into Trump's attacks on civil servants & the essential services they provide.

[image or embed] — Oversight Committee Dems (@oversightdemocrats.house.gov) May 30, 2025 at 1:24 PM

x A 4-year-old immigrant girl’s life hangs in the balance. Doctors warn she could die if deported. That's why I’m urging DHS with @repluzrivas.bsky.social and 37 colleagues to extend her temporary status and let her stay in LA. No child should face death because of our broken immigration system.

[image or embed] — Rep. Jimmy Gomez (@gomez.house.gov) May 30, 2025 at 1:34 PM

x They followed the rules. Then the Trump Administration changed them. Now a four-year-old girl’s life is at risk.

Another example of reckless policies backed by a desire to instill fear, not safety.

[image or embed] — Governor Gavin Newsom (@governor.ca.gov) May 30, 2025 at 1:33 PM

x If skyrocketing hold times and website crashes weren't enough, DOGE's cuts will force our seniors to make nearly 2 million extra trips to SSA offices annually. And after all that, they only found two cases of potential fraud out of over 110,000 new cases. That's not efficiency — that's failure.

[image or embed] — Kirsten Gillibrand (@kirstengillibrand.bsky.social) May 30, 2025 at 1:13 PM

x With SCOTUS’ blessing, Trump’s barbaric punishment of thousands of innocent Cubans, Haitians, Venezuelans, and Nicaraguans legally in our nation can proceed. In their hour of need, these people deserved only love. But this administration is capable of only hate. I am disgusted.

[image or embed] — Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke (@repyvetteclarke.bsky.social) May 30, 2025 at 1:10 PM

x CAPAC Chair @meng.house.gov led 31 of her colleagues today in demanding answers from Secretary Rubio on his plans to revoke visas for Chinese students. The wholesale revocation of visas raises serious concerns that innocent students will be targeted, simply because they are of Chinese descent.

[image or embed] — CAPAC (@capac.house.gov) May 30, 2025 at 1:31 PM

x DOGE delivered suffering rather than savings. It laid off thousands of skilled federal workers, including veterans, and destroyed programs like PEPFAR, costing lives. It promised $2T in cuts, claimed $175B, but likely saved far less at great human cost.

[image or embed] — Mike Levin (@mikelevin.org) May 31, 2025 at 12:32 PM

x Northwest Washington has the best aviation and aerospace workforce in the world. Boeing's announcement of a new production line at the Everett facility will mean more good-paying union jobs for our community and help bolster the regional economy. www.seattletimes.com/business/boe...

[image or embed] — Representative Rick Larsen (@repricklarsen.bsky.social) May 31, 2025 at 10:40 AM

This is really scary!

x Trump is creating a government database that includes your personal, health, and financial info with zero oversight or transparency. This is ripe for abuse by a vengeful president or a massive data breach. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/30/t...

[image or embed] — Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (@repdelbene.bsky.social) May 31, 2025 at 10:35 AM

x Job Corps provides critical skills training for vulnerable Americans. Shutting it down is yet another blow to working class Americans. thehill.com/business/bud...

[image or embed] — Senator Angela Alsobrooks (@handle.invalid) May 31, 2025 at 8:01 AM

An important message, so I’m posting both posts in the thread.

x For generations, when people were in danger—fleeing war, persecution, political chaos—they looked to America. Not just for safety, but because we stood for something better. We told them that if you did the right thing—follow the rules, find a sponsor, come with hope—you’d be met with dignity. — Congressman Wesley Bell (@repwesleybellmo.bsky.social) May 30, 2025 at 5:58 PM

x This ruling allows that promise to be torn apart. It says we no longer lead with principle—we lead with fear. With cruelty. With abandonment. Some think that makes us stronger. It doesn’t. It makes us small. And it dims the light of that shining city on a hill—the one that made us who we are.

[image or embed] — Congressman Wesley Bell (@repwesleybellmo.bsky.social) May 30, 2025 at 5:58 PM

Media appearances

You may not see a lot of Democrats on national news broadcasts, but they’re often spotlighted on local news broadcasts. It may be even more important to be seen locally, versus nationally.

x In providing oversight of ICE facilities, I'm making sure we are treating people with dignity and respect, especially those fleeing persecution and seeking a better life for themselves in America.

[image or embed] — Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari (@repyassansari.bsky.social) May 30, 2025 at 1:31 PM

x Just because Elon Musk is leaving—doesn’t mean this battle is over. DOGE has burrowed into every agency and has gotten even more aggressive over the last several weeks. Let me be clear: we will hold every one of them to account.

[image or embed] — Rep. Melanie Stansbury (NM-01) (@repstansbury.bsky.social) May 30, 2025 at 9:08 AM

x Trump overstepped. Again. The law is clear: Presidents do not have unilateral control over tariffs. We've seen Republican appointed judges agree, and I expect more judges to agree as well.

[image or embed] — Representative Deborah Ross (@ross.house.gov) May 31, 2025 at 11:01 AM

x Billionaires get the tax break—working families get the bill. The GOP tax scam would rip health care from seniors, cut nutrition aid for kids, and explode the deficit by $3.8 trillion. More from @abc15.com ⬇️

[image or embed] — Rep. Greg Stanton (@repgregstanton.bsky.social) May 30, 2025 at 3:22 PM

x Upon wrapping up an impactful visit to El Salvador, seeing the challenges firsthand reminds me why we must tackle the root causes of immigration with compassion and action. Grateful for CARECEN’s leadership—and proud to stand with them.

[image or embed] — Congressman Glenn Ivey (MD-04) (@ivey.house.gov) May 30, 2025 at 2:55 PM

Town halls and community events.

Congress hasn’t been in session this week so members have been in their districts and states meeting with constituents and constituent groups.

x For decades, Head Start has set up our kids for success through high-quality early childhood education. I visited Jeff Seymour Family Center in El Monte to see their Head Start program in action! I will never stop fighting to protect the future of our children’s education.

[image or embed] — Rep. Gil Cisneros (@cisneros.house.gov) May 30, 2025 at 12:30 PM

x Next on my 10-county tour: Brown County! I was at Westridge Place in New Ulm, a new childcare center helping families access high-quality, affordable care. Without reliable childcare, parents can't work, and local economies suffer. We must support local solutions like this.

[image or embed] — Amy Klobuchar (@amyklobuchar.com) May 30, 2025 at 12:54 PM

x Our students are the future. We must fight to protect higher education from the repeated attacks by the Trump admin. Thank you to all of the students and faculty who came to my town hall at @ucirvine.bsky.social to discuss the challenges they’re facing in higher ed and how we can fight back.

[image or embed] — Rep. Dave Min (@congressmin.bsky.social) May 30, 2025 at 1:13 PM

x Today, I heard from experts on the ground who are combating Baltimore’s opioid crisis. Trump's recent cuts to funding could hurt the progress Baltimore has made in saving lives. I thank Mayor Scott and community partners for their insight. I will always fight for Baltimore.

[image or embed] — Senator Angela Alsobrooks (@alsobrooks.senate.gov) May 29, 2025 at 6:16 PM

x Had the pleasure of speaking in Jamestown at a town hall hosted by the Ukraine Relief Project. I’ll never stop fighting for Ukrainian victory.

[image or embed] — Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (@whitehouse.senate.gov) May 28, 2025 at 6:38 AM

x Last night, I hosted a town hall in Burien, where over 300 people showed up to make their voices heard! This is democracy in action — and I’m so grateful to represent such an engaged district.

[image or embed] — Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (@jayapal.house.gov) May 28, 2025 at 12:38 PM

x Thank you to everyone who came to yesterday’s in-person town hall. We talked budget reconciliation and I heard your fears and answered your questions. I will always show up face to face to fight for Nevada. #NV04 #TownHall #BudgetReconciliation

[image or embed] — Rep. Steven Horsford (@repstevenhorsford.bsky.social) May 28, 2025 at 1:33 PM

x As AANHPI Heritage month comes to a close, I'm committed to supporting the AANHPI community in LA & across the U.S. 🌸 It was great to sit down with local community leaders to discuss their issues like Medicaid, elder care, and immigration reforms, among others.

[image or embed] — Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (@kamlager-dove.house.gov) May 31, 2025 at 10:22 AM

Protests and protest signs!

It’s important to remember that protests are happening every day across the country.
