Oh You’re an American Fascist, Representative Flood [1]

Around 3 weeks ago on the PBS Newshour Jonathan Capeheart and David Brooks were asked point-blank if American democracy had been lost. Brooks stated the country was under great strain while still basically intact, while Capeheart warned we were “in the barrel.”
In the barrel? We’re in a raging river kept from drowning only by a bobbing barrel headed toward the falls, eventually to go over, smashed apart and drowned? Ah, I see, Mr. Capeheart, we are in process, doomed to drowning in repressive, ruthless waters, but not there yet.
Well I ask you, Mr. Capeheart, were the fuck is this magical mystical waterfall threshold so our people can plainly know what’s happened? Holy Jesus Christ, all of us take a real long slow look around.
The President is a lying quack Russian asset, blithely ripping the constitution apart and killing hundreds of thousands with his drug addict lieutenant Musk. Congress has become useless, sitting there mute while the President takes their tariff power and role away. The Supreme Court created an immune king, stupidly inert as Trump gives them the finger and won’t return Garcia from the gulag in El Salvador.
Once good friendly neighbors Canada and Mexico absolutely hate us, while Europe has issued a travel advisory to its people not to travel here, the risk of a life-altering horrifying experience at the airport from Gestapo Ice goons too great. Trump has thrown the 1st, 4th, 5th, and 14th into the furnace, his Attorney General and media spokeswoman suck barking, raging liars no one hears what they say anymore, all of it’s just manipulative propaganda.
So much of the constitution has been thrown out already with the truth totally lost Digby of Hullabaloo thinks it’s totally plausible the Senate just won’t certify a 2026 Democratic midterm victory. What for, none of the democracy rules matter anymore, didn’t you hear?
In the barrel? [spits] We have lost the country, we held an election but this is no representative democracy, the government constantly malfunctions so Trump can be the fascist dictator he wants to be.
There’s no American waterfall democracy meter to watch every day, the threshold for losing the country is in our individual minds. Never any disrespect, Mr. Capeheart, eventually you’ll get there with your consciousness tumbling over the rocks, many millions are still bobbing in the water with you. Perhaps they’ll comprehend when Trump gets his grotesque military birthday parade to go along with his gift 747 flying palace.
If we’re not a democracy, what are we? Very hard to say, how do you make up a label for a newly broken country like this? We’re a quasi-democracy, semi-democracy, failed democracy?
What do we now label our dear co-conspiratory Republicans in all this? Authoritarians? Putinists? Dictatorshiptorians? Nothing really works as perfectly as to what we know and have labelled correctly before: fascists.
Ah, the F word, that could never work! Fascists are quaint, ancient evil actors we and the planet banished long ago, that could never be true!
Oh shut up, many would state Republicans have instantly earned the fascist label just for their horrifying immigration “policy” alone. At a recent town hall meeting Representative Mike Flood (2:10) haughtily denied the label, “I’m no fascist, I’m an American.”
No, Mike, you’re an American fascist, no doubt of that at all. You approve of a vicious, ruthlessly heartless mass deportation policy. You care not a whit while the President lies like a carpet in wandering, demented rage in his schemes to invade Iceland. You just voted for the Judiciary to lose all contempt powers. You don’t care Congress gave up tariff power. You like women losing aborting rights while denying the climate crisis, billionaires happily dancing away all the while.
You can keep calling yourself an American, Mike, that’s fine and obviously true, there’s just that little addendum of fascism more and more of us are comprehending every day.
What will become of us? Who knows, the eventually gross outcomes of fear, violence, repression and looting of public goods horrifying in of itself, but the vast potential of a once great country lost, all of the fun and joy of the one life we have just squashed and squandered, that will be equally as bad to comprehend. What for, Representative Flood? Oh of course that’s right, Mike, you owned the libs really good. Didn’t you?
