I attended a press conference given by friends and relations of two guys that were picked up by I.C.E. in Maine while on their way home from Massachusetts where they had been working as welders on a job site. heir papers were in order and hey were following all legal processes. No criminal record. the even was last-minute but 120 people were there showing solidarity.
One of the speakers was their former welding instructor at a school in South Portland that welcomes immigrants wishing to learn construction trades, and she was able to track down the location of the local jail where they were held. She spoke with him for twenty minutes in person.
She shared that she had set up a prison food account for the two guys. She said that the guy told her they get one meal per day if they don’t have money in their food account.
I know this is a short version of the story — and I passed this along to members of the resistance who have been active in the town where the jail is located. But, can somebody out here tell me if this is the usual practice for feeding people in the federal system these days?
