The Bernie and other “Bros” Dilemma [1]

I know a lot of folks here are Bro fans/advocates. The Bernie Bros, the Podcast Bros, the Obama Bros. I also know quite a few of you wonder why Bernie Sanders has a Black support problem, you are confused, baffled, perplexed, (as do many of the bro’s clubs). Or to put it bluntly why most Black folks don’t like Bernie Sanders (or really any of the Bros’) quite as much as you do, even though Bernie talks about policies that we approve of. Conundrum!

First let me set your minds at ease, if Bernie Sanders by some twist of fate was to win the Democratic primaries, Black folks and other minorities would cast their ballots for him every time against republicans. Every Single Time. For no matter how personal views of Bernie Sanders we know he will be better than the alternative. (there’s a lesson in there for some of you).

Now to the meat of the subject. The Bro’s clubs, Bernie Sanders chief amongst them, talk down to Black people and about Black people they do not (like a lot of you) even realize they are doing it. But we do. The next reason is we don’t find Bernie to be very effective in passing the legislation he talks about, he is too intransigent and finally the 3rd reason is because, to be honest, of the way you revere him and refuse to hear criticism of him (just full truth here).

Side note: We’ve been having a lot of talk about “dumbing down language” to attract voters, and I keep telling you talking down to people won’t work and you don’t get it… reason is, your demographic don’t actually know what it feels like to be talked down too, even though you think you do.

While I like Cory Booker, I can admit he’s a player and immature a lot of times, while I love Crockett as stated the other day even at 44 I think she lacks diplomacy and maturity, while I like Hakeem Jeffries I can admit he lacks charisma and doesn’t know how to talk to people, while I love Warnock… heck he has no flaws lol. Also newsflash? Not every Black person thinks Obama was the greatest, personally I wish he’d been more aggressive and assertive, though I understand that as the first Black president he had a very fine line to walk on. I much prefer Michele who is to me a real straight talker and I like straight talkers.

See, I can like, appreciate, advocate for a Black person and still discuss their flaws and areas of weakness. Some of y’all, be like magas, Bernie can do no wrong, neither can AOC or Hogg, or pretty much any person with a “progressive” label attached to them. It just ain’t realistic. They are people and while I may tease about Warnock, human beings have flaws. (please note that the observations are my own personal take on cited folks).

Do you even realize the mantle of holiness you drape around your own candidates and officials? At the same time, most of you seem focused on bashing and destroying democrats as if they weren’t on your side? The only one I’ve seen offered any grace is Crockett. As I’ve said many times, lots of you simply take republicans talking points as gospel truth and run with them against your own. Why is that?

Bernie Sanders is arrogant (frankly lots of politicians are) and bitter. He (like you) has never gotten over his 2016 lost and refuses to admit the truth he lost because he didn’t have the votes. Harris lost because of racism. Cases closed (for me). Y’all can keep looking for excuses in Narnia and Neverland, but it won’t change the facts. Contrary to belief, Black folks don’t rely on ads (money) to cast their choice. We rely on character, voting patterns, policies and yes the lesser of two evils. When Black folks almost to a man reject a candidate, maybe instead of jumping to conclusions, you should ask yourselves why?

You won’t find much in Bernie’s rallies to confirm his disdain for Black folks (except maybe the lack of Black attendance), the man does know how to speak in public, he is a good orator and storyteller. For that you have to go listen to his interviews of his appearances on various podcasters channels, and some of his voting records, that’s where his guard is down and he doesn’t weigh his words so much. (the same goes for Maher, and other podcasters).

Again, contrary to popular belief, we know a mishap from a put down, we don’t label every awkward uttering as “racist!!!!!”. Biden can go on and say “if you don’t vote for me you ain’t Black” and it’s cringe, but Black folks also know Biden does have real respect for Black folks, Bernie is the opposite he will be polite and even complimentary, hell he’ll march for our rights even… but it’s all for show, he has no real respect for Black folks, it is or rather was, a useful thing to have in one’s résumé if you’re in politics, that’s all.

And that last part is the problem with a lot of allies, Black & Minority issues were a good look on their social crusades résumé, once the backlash against BLM, CRT, AA, DEI, Trans Rights, started… allies melted away faster a snowball landing on the surface of the sun.

A lot of voices here are dismissive of minorities also, telling us to “hush about our issues until we win”, Maher said “can’t you just admit we’ve made progress?” Bernie said, “they think If you’re Black you’re great!” and it’s dismissive and patronizing, no we will not shut up about our issues, we will not be satisfied with just progress until the end of times and no we don’t think just cause someone is Black they are great.
