The Offenses of the King in the Declaration of Independence [1]

This will be short.
I’m active on Writing.Com, ordinarily a nice, friendly place to share fiction and thoughts about the craft of writing. But today, the newsfeed on that site has some right-wingers ranting about about how the country is “now returning” to what it stood for, thanks, they claim, to the second amendment and our “unique heritage.” Of course, our Bill of Rights is largely a reaffirmation of the English Bill of Rights of 1689, a fact no one on the Right seems to know.
Anyway, here is a partial list of the offenses of the King from the Declaration of Independence, certainly part of our heritage:
He has refused his Assent to Laws
He has obstructed the Administration of Justice...
He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone…
He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people...
He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws...
For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world
For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent
For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury:
For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences:
He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us,
The list, of course, will be familiar from reading news reports about things the Trump administration has done or explicitly plans to do. Apparently, none of the people praising the so-called “return to what the US stood for” have actually read the Declaration of Independence, or, perhaps, the country they want to “return to” is the one prior to 1776. You know, the one where the King’s tyranny reigned.
