I like the graphical forecasts on my phone as much as anyone, but I know that the commercial software applications use data that have been collected by our publicly funded National Weather Service.
Funding cuts by the federal administration has reduced the number of weather balloons being launched. And besides a forecast that tells me if I need a raincoat. there is much useful data, maps, and forecasts.
Most of the climatological data available for Alaska have been accumulated at the Alaska Climate Research Center and by the combined Alaska State Climate Center.
