Fact checking Trump with AI [1]

I think that the way the news media is grovelling to Trump is scandalous. Most news organizations refuse to write anything truthful about Trump for fear that he might use the considerable powers of the presidency to affect their business,. After some exposure to AI tools, I decided that some relatively unbiased media companies might use AI as a work around. Rather than doing a fact check directly, they could just ask a theoretically non-partisan AI robot to do the fact checking and publish the results. So I thought that I’d try it out myself to see whether it would work. So here is the result of an enquiry I made of Claude to fact check the garbage trump spat out about the pre-Trump economy:
Me: fact check the following statement by the president of the US.
Claude: I'd be happy to help fact-check a presidential statement. However, I don't see the specific statement you'd like me to verify in your message. Could you please share the statement from President Trump that you'd like me to fact-check? Once you provide it, I can search for relevant information to verify the claims and provide you with an accurate assessment.
Me: (Trump) Because we have $14 trillion now invested, committed to investing when Biden didn't have practically anything. this country was dying. You know, we have the hottest country anywhere in the world. I went to Saudi Arabia, the king told me, he said you got the hottest com -- we have the hottest country in the world right now. Six months ago this country was stone cold dead. We had a dead country. We had a country, people didn't think it was going to survive, and you ask a nasty question like that.
Claude: I'll fact-check the key claims in this statement by searching for current information.
Based on my search, here's a fact-check of the key claims in President Trump's statement: $14 trillion in investment commitments:This appears to be an exaggeration or misstatement. The UAE committed to investing $1.4 trillion over the next decade, and Qatar committed to $1.2 trillion in economic exchange TRUMP EFFECT: A Running List of New U.S. Investment in President Trump’s Second Term
, but these figures don't add up to $14 trillion. The search results show various foreign investment policies and commitments but no evidence of a $14 trillion figure.
Biden "didn't have practically anything":This is contradicted by economic data. The economy Trump inherited from Biden was "robust, with low unemployment, slowing inflation, and above-trend growth, investment and consumption" Tracking Trump’s economy | Reuters
The U.S. economy was "at its best in decades" when Trump took office for his second term The Biden Administration Handed Over a Strong Economy - Center for American Progress. During Biden's last two years, the S&P 500 posted back-to-back annual gains of over 20% for the first time since the late 1990s Biden’s economic legacy: Historic wage gains, investment and job growth but marred by inflation | CNN Business
"Country was dying" and "stone cold dead":Economic indicators contradict this characterization. Biden delivered "the strongest job market in decades" Trump Leads Biden on Income, Living Standards: Election 2024 Economy Scorecard - Bloomberg
, and various sources describe the economy as strong when Biden left office.
"Hottest country" claim from Saudi king:I couldn't find verification of this specific conversation or quote from the Saudi king in the search results.
The statement contains significant inaccuracies regarding both the scale of investment commitments and the state of the U.S. economy during the Biden administration's final period.
