So, it would seem Trump trashed the economy, cost investors between six and seven TRILLION DOLLARS, crippled the dollar as the wold’s reserve currency, and destroyed generations of international goodwill for America, ILLEGALLY.
Nobody could have predicted.™
A three-judge panel on the U.S. Court of International Trade has ruled that President Donald Trump exceeded his authority when he put in place his widespread tariffs on April 2, which he dubbed “Liberation Day” and has also struck down the tariffs Trump imposed on Mexican, Canadian and Chinese imports with the aim of combatting fentanyl and drug trafficking.
The Court’s order cites Constitutional provisions granting Congress alone the power to, “lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises.”
Apparently, the Constitution does NOT, in fact, grant the president the right to extort foreign nations to line his own pockets — wasn’t he impeached for that the last time? — even if he declares a fake “emergency.”
The Court ruled that Trump’s fake fentanyl “emergency” was not something that could be solved via tariffs, in any case.
Nor could Congress abdicate its responsibilities under the Constitution to the president. Sadly, it seems, Congress is going to have to start to work for a living.
Now, the only question is, will this ruling have any effect, or will Trump simply continue to ignore the law? Will Congress ever do anything to preserve their phony-baloney jobs?
We’ll have to wait and see.
