Lady Liberty and Ms. Lazarus get an update [1]

Recently, a French politician mentioned that perhaps the USA should return the Statue of Liberty. It’s easy to understand their thinking. Of course, not going to happen. So I thought, to placate our former allies, maybe see should at least consider adding a few lines to update Ms. Lazarus’ epic work which famously rests at the base of Liberty.

Give me your tired, your poor (to send to prison in El Salvador)

Your huddled masses yearning to be free (from the detention facility)

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore ( just not welcome anymore)

Send these, the homeless, tempest tossed to me (they’ll live at Guantanamo for free)

I lift my lamp beside the golden door (which, sadly, isn’t open anymore.)
