On May 25, 1977, the Wednesday before the Memorial Day weekend, the first Star Wars movie premiered and changed cinema history. It opened in 32 theaters, including the iconic Uptown theater in Washington DC.
A glowing review by Washington Post reviewer Gary Arnold that day led to a frenzy of moviegoers with sold out shows, people turned away from evening performances and chaos in the Cleveland Park neighborhood for weeks. boundarystones.weta.org/…
George Lucas' delightful science-fiction adventure fantasy "Star Wars," opening today at the Uptown, is a new classic in a rousing movie tradition: a space swashbuckler. Lucas, the young filmmaker who rose to prominence with "American Graffiti," spent four years writing, preparing, directing and editing "Star Wars." He has achieved a witty and exhilarating synthesis of themes and cliches from the Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers comics and serials, plus such related but less expected sources as the western, the pirate melodrama, the aerial combat melodrama and the samurai epic. www.washingtonpost.com/...
How many of you saw it on opening day or soon thereafter?
Here is the restored opening scene from the original release of Star Wars in 1977, with John William's memorable score.

Now let’s solve today’s puzzle composed in 1925 by noted British Chess composer Brian Harley (1883-1955). He was the president of the British Chess Problem Society from 1947 until 1949. In his honour, each year the British magazine "The Problemist" awards the best two-mover problem with the "Brian Harley" award. P.S.
