Tuesday 5/27 edition of lots and lots and lots of Democrats in action! [1]

['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.']

Date: 2025-05-27

This series is born out of frustration with seeing people on social media and this site say, “Where are the Dems?” or “What are the Dems doing?” This is not meant as an exhaustive list, but merely as a highlight of the types of the activities and statements they’re doing and making.

A big welcome to all of you who are new to this series, which I publish Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Please, before you complain about the party, take a few minutes of time to see if your concerns are being addressed.

I also encourage EVERYONE to check out the following diary series: lpeacock does Thursday diaries on the Congressional Black Caucus. Dfh1 is doing a Monday and Friday series that spotlight individual Democrats. T2 also has a series called the Rainbow Roundup, where focus is placed on LGBTQ lawmakers and journalists. And billboteach has one focusing on Hispanic elected Democrats and civic education.

You can gain easy access to all these diaries by following the Democratic Party Spotlight Group.

Heads up about this week’s focus.

x 🚨Dem lawmakers are planning to make a series of public visits to private detention centers in their states starting as early as next week, they tell me. The plan has wide support from tri-caucus and progressive leaders, and two border state Dems told me they’re planning visits. https://t.co/HvotH6mntd — Adrian Carrasquillo (@Carrasquillo) May 23, 2025

@Democrats.

x Today marks five years since George Floyd’s murder, sparking a call for humanity, justice, and accountability that was heard around the world. In his memory, we will never stop fighting to ensure everyone is treated equally under the law. — Democrats (@democrats.org) May 25, 2025 at 8:42 AM

x Trump and Republicans don’t care about you pic.twitter.com/P1g1jitQUj — Democrats (@TheDemocrats) May 25, 2025

Democrats doing Democratic things…

x Donald Trump and House Republicans are crashing the economy. Costs are up, the stock market is down and America’s credit rating has been downgraded. Is another Republican Recession next? — Hakeem Jeffries (@hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social) May 25, 2025 at 5:38 AM

x On Memorial Day and every day, we remember our brave servicemembers who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. We honor their families who carry their memory every day. We'll never stop honoring our fallen heroes. We will never stop fighting to do right by our Gold Star families. 🇺🇸 — Chuck Schumer (@schumer.senate.gov) May 26, 2025 at 6:00 AM

Sharing the complete, 3-part thread here because it’s really important.

x 3 thoughts in response to Speaker Johnson here: 1. Adding the token "Judeo" here is a neat trick MAGA Republicans do to camouflage their Christian nationalism. Hegseth forgot that with his explicitly Christian "invitation" to the Pentagon workforce, so Johnson cleaned it up for him.

[image or embed] — Rep. Jared Huffman (@realjaredhuffman.bsky.social) May 25, 2025 at 5:00 AM

x 2. Principles or ethics of any kind from MAGA Republicans would be a welcome change - Christian or otherwise! There is no greater Trump sycophant than Mike Johnson, who pays lip service to principles and ethics while fawning over the most lawless, corrupt, unethical POTUS in history. — Rep. Jared Huffman (@realjaredhuffman.bsky.social) May 25, 2025 at 5:00 AM

x The USA is a secular republic with a constitution that carefully avoids mentions of God or Jesus, prohibits religious tests & bans public establishment of religion. Johnson should stop curating fake "Christian nation" myths. He's actually encroaching on religious freedom when he does that. — Rep. Jared Huffman (@realjaredhuffman.bsky.social) May 25, 2025 at 5:00 AM

x Russia’s continued aggression towards Ukraine is unconscionable. This weekend, Putin’s regime has decimated neighborhoods, and killed civilians — including children. The Trump administration and nations around the world must condemn these attacks and stand with Ukraine.

[image or embed] — Rep. Brendan Boyle (@congressmanboyle.bsky.social) May 25, 2025 at 12:18 PM

x I was happy to meet with members of the Washington Council on International Trade to discuss the impact that recent tariff policy has had on our ports, small businesses, agriculture industry, and more.

[image or embed] — Rep. Kim Schrier, M.D. (@repkimschrier.bsky.social) May 25, 2025 at 12:30 PM

x New reporting shows that Elon Musk is illegally using his influence to funnel billions of dollars to himself. All while Republicans try to cut health care for millions. Musk isn’t gone yet. Fire Elon Musk.

[image or embed] — Congressman Greg Casar (@repcasar.bsky.social) May 25, 2025 at 10:38 AM

x If this disastrous GOP budget passes the Senate, the consequences will be dire. Rural hospitals will close, people will lose access to 24-hour memory care facilities, and children will go hungry. It’s anti-American, and it's just plain wrong.

[image or embed] — Lauren Underwood (@laurenunderwood.bsky.social) May 25, 2025 at 9:15 AM

x FACT: Under the Big Beautiful Bill for Billionaires that the House Republicans passed, the poor will get poorer and the rich will get richer.

[image or embed] — Rep. Mark Pocan (@pocan.house.gov) May 25, 2025 at 9:03 AM

x Trump's Big Ugly Bill is a big ugly disaster for Ohioans. Costs are rising and the economy is on edge due to Trump's policies. Taking away health care and nutrition benefits on top of that would be a gut punch for everyday people. ohiocapitaljournal.com/2025/05/23/u...

[image or embed] — Rep. Shontel Brown (@repshontelbrown.bsky.social) May 25, 2025 at 8:27 AM

x Newark Airport is overwhelmed with congestion, staffing issues, and equipment concerns. Non-essential helicopters are unnecessary burdens on air traffic controllers and our collective safety. It's time to put our communities - and our safety - first. #StopTheChop

[image or embed] — Rep. Rob Menendez (@menendez.house.gov) May 25, 2025 at 8:26 AM

x If you enjoy a good carton of blueberries – there's a chance you can thank the folks at Marthedal Farm for helping put them on your table. Grateful for the chance to see their operation here in Fresno today.

[image or embed] — Sen. Adam Schiff (@schiff.senate.gov) May 24, 2025 at 7:57 PM

x Speaker Johnson does a lot preying and praying. In any event, as the great Robert Ingersoll once said, "hands that help are better far than lips that pray."

[image or embed] — Rep. Jared Huffman (@realjaredhuffman.bsky.social) May 25, 2025 at 7:43 AM

x The Republican budget isn’t just numbers on a page; it’s $110 more on your family’s electricity bill each year. I’m fighting to keep clean energy tax credits in place, so Washington families don’t foot the bill.

[image or embed] — Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (@repdelbene.bsky.social) May 24, 2025 at 5:32 PM

A big deal for the nearly 5 million members of Southern California Kaiser Permanente.

x I commend the @nuhw.org and Kaiser Permanente for ratifying this agreement that ensures 2,400 dedicated workers receive the support they need to continue providing high-quality mental health care.

[image or embed] — Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (@kamlager-dove.house.gov) May 24, 2025 at 4:19 PM

[image or embed] — Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (@ramirez.house.gov) May 24, 2025 at 1:39 PM

x I joined Rep. Hank Johnson in introducing the "Stronger Communities Through Better Transit Act" which would help provide more frequent bus and rail service, prioritize services for places with existing poor service, and improve transportation equity. hankjohnson.house.gov/media-center...

[image or embed] — Congresswoman Lateefah Simon (@replsimon.bsky.social) May 24, 2025 at 11:05 AM

x I stand with Harvard and all educational institutions against the President’s unlawful attempts to bully his opponents into silence.

[image or embed] — Representative Rick Larsen (@repricklarsen.bsky.social) May 24, 2025 at 10:55 AM

Sounds isolationist, but take a look at what happened with Arizona’s water being used to grow hay to feed Saudia Arabian horses to understand the very real concerns with these kinds of land/natural resource issues.

x We can all agree Michigan’s forest & farmland shouldn’t be in the hands of companies potentially close with countries of concern, like China. That's why I'm fighting to pass legislation to ensure bad actors aren’t buying up Michigan’s precious resources. https://t.co/ZtIPddmRbX — Sen. Elissa Slotkin (@SenatorSlotkin) May 25, 2025

Media appearances

x What's bad is the people who attended that $TRUMP dinner, including those with strong ties to the CCP. What's worse is the $TRUMP investors who did not attend. The ones who want their influence to remain anonymous – to use at a time & place of their choosing. youtu.be/HjbmUI74ziY

[image or embed] — Rep. Jake Auchincloss (@repauchincloss.bsky.social) May 24, 2025 at 3:04 PM

x Moskowitz: They have no brakes. They’re drunk with power. And the only way we’re going to send a message to them—the only way we’re going to be able to put brakes on this and stop it—is to make Hakeem Jeffries Speaker. — Acyn (@acyn.bsky.social) 2025-05-23T20:31:29.190Z

x Republicans used to shout “drain the swamp.” Now they are the swamp. Handing billionaires tax breaks while gutting Medicaid and raising taxes on families? That’s peak swamp behavior. 🐊
