Memorial Day!
Is over!
Now it’s the Tuesday-that-feels-like-a-Monday that follows!
Which is preceded, of course, by the Monday night that feels like a Sunday night. It’s almost comforting to think that at least when you get the Sunday night jitters, you realize you’re already 20% closer to the next weekend.
And then, of course, you remember that Trump is president, and weekends aren’t all that great.
This one wasn’t! But I appreciated the extra time in the morning.
The thing about a long weekend for Memorial Day is that in addition to ruining a standard weekend, Trump is liable to ruin it even more by making a speech. And a speech about and in what used to be a culturally important context. Only now it isn’t, anymore. It can’t be. Or else Trump would have to be ejected from office and shunned as an outcast, forever.
So instead, we have to decide that honoring the fallen—and Memorial Day itself—aren’t “important.” Temporarily, at least.
