I Won't Be Voting For Newsom [1]

"It's time for Democrats to grow a backbone and stand up for what we believe."
Former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, 2012 Democratic National Convention
I know we have a long way to go before the 2028 Democratic Presidential campaign, but I have written one candidate off my list already. California Governor Gavin Newsom. In 2012, Deval Patrick stated that Democrats needed to grow a backbone, and as of today, Democrats still need to do it. It’s time Democrats stopped beating around the bush, soft-soaping, and acting scared to take on Republicans using the same tactics they use.. As far as I’m concerned, these Republican MAGA nuts can cry until their tear ducts dry up about Democrats playing identity politics, political correctness, cancel culture, or anything else because it’s time for Democrats to stand up, take these right wing crazies to the woodshed and give them the beating they deserve.
Instead of doing that, it seems like some who call themselves the new age leaders in the Democratic Party are trying their level best to turn into right-wing crazies themselves. What I have seen from Democrats reminds me of Coach Klein in “The Waterboy.” It was as if every Republican was Red Beaulieu taking Coach Klein's playbook and daring Democrats to do something about it.
In both 2016 and 2024, the claim was that the election of Trump was caused by Democrats pushing identity politics. It was said Democratic obsession with political correctness and policies of inclusion pissed off the majority of the voters and that Democrats must moderate themselves if they want to win. People get paid a lot of money to do these things, but I don’t. I'm just an observer, but these opinions are nonsense, to put it nicely. As an observer, what I will say here is that what these highly paid so-called experts are saying seems to be that the majority of those who voted chose overt racism over opposition to that overt racism because they were mad that Democrats opposed racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia, and misogyny. Where were the calls for the right to tone down? This is a prime example of how Democrats allow Republicans to control the narrative.
This brings me to Governor Gavin Newsom. The governor had a series of podcasts where he decided that we should be more agreeable with people who not only want to end democracy, but want to erase the Democratic Party. Appeasing the racists, sexists, misogynists, homophobes, and anti LGBT types to win an election is just not the way to go, and if people are offended by unapologetic opposition to such people or ideas, then go join the Republican Party. Observing Gavin Newsom's conversation with Charlie Kirk was quite discomforting. As a result, I will not be inclined to vote for Newsom should he decide to run for president. I’m sorry, but I am not going to even try coming to any common ground with a bigot, nor does the Democratic Party need to. You learn as a kid that you cannot appease the bully. You have to knock him out to stop him. That is what Democrats must now do. It’s time for Democrats to get our clothes dirty.
