Seizing the Narrative With The Sharpest Tool

350,000 Venezuelans De-Documented Overnight at the behest of the tRump administration / US Representative LaMonica McIver Charged with Assault by Pam Bondi’s DOJ for performing her Constitutional oversight duties / Budget Bill with Cuts to Medicaid Threaten the Lives and Health of 72 Million US Citizens /A President Extorting Law Firms, Universities and Charities From the Oval Office /A Sitting President Selling Meme Coins and raking in millions with special presidential favor to the highest bidder / Republicans Continue to Press Voter Fraud Claims to Pass Voter Suppression Laws / Ed Martin Deputized ‘Weaponization Czar’...

The list of transgressions grows exponentially with each day. What is the remedy for a President whose cronies have been given the cover of official government titles to help him break Constitutional tenets every day? US representatives Thenadar Green, prompted by millions of voters, knew/know that the answer is impeachment. While Rep. Thenadar was bullied by some of his colleagues into revoking his Articles *, Rep. Al Green has pressed ahead and I think we need to rally behind him and the Articles.

To those who say it’s a waste of time I posit that waiting is worse. When a President and his Cabinet act in concert to break the rules of our democracy that the Constitution lays out, impeachment is THE recourse. The Constitution contains the mechanism for its own protection. To ignore this tool in the current emergency of vanishing rights - when the existence of the historically marginalized is being criminalized - is wasteful and ill-advised. It also appears like dereliction the longer the obvious remedy is rejected.

While we know it’s unlikely we’ll get enough votes to convict and remove with the current numbers in Congress, we can – and should - start rolling this ball now. Akin to a snowball, its impact and import will accrete with time. Impeachment creates actionable hope. We need to latch onto this remedy and lay out this administration’s crimes in a format people will pay attention to. If such an action could slow, just a bit, the steamroller of illegal actions this administration commits, it is worth embarking on. Publicly building a case for impeachment would eventually wrest the media’s attention and encourage each and every opponent of this regime.

Peoples’ lives are being ruined NOW. Families residing in the US are being torn apart. Each time ICE abducts and imprisons a person, all human rights in this country are trampled. These kidnappings and renditions server as precedence. They are the prelude to even more widespread abuses. Conditions in domestic, for-profit prisons where immigrating people are jailed, are substandard and dangerous to the mental and physical health of those detained and those who love them. They need action now. **

People require hope to feed courage. This is a current and ongoing emergency that requires we do whatever we legally can to stop this rogue president and his cronies in their tracks. Impeachment is our strongest option. One of the most prevalent signs in protests happening across the nation is the message Impeach, Convict, Remove. We need to call our Congressional representatives – democrats and republicans - and tell them this is what we want. We can also call Leader Hakeem Jeffries and let him know we support Rep. Al Green’s articles.

To our detriment, the Democrats have long been the party of ‘wait, now’s not the time for that cause.’ Democrats have kicked the can down the road on issues like a national law that would have protected abortion rights, national laws that would have ended police brutality, defunded ICE. We missed the window – 2 decades – that would have codified the ERA and we ignored the imperative of making our immigration system a civil one. And now we find ourselves in this situation. We can’t afford business-as-usual anymore.

We have to tackle the wrongs in front of us with the strongest tools we have. Yes, the far right will attack the effort but if we’re wise, we can use their attacks to our advantage. If we build unity behind the call to impeach, we create a powerful tool with which to rally and fight. We will mirror nationally what ordinary folks have been urging locally.

I know many will disagree and call this idea naive and unwise but if you read and agree, start calling. Emblazon your protest sign with the message, ‘Impeach, Convict, Remove’. Waiting until the numbers in Congress change with the mid-terms to start the impeachment process is bad strategy. By that time, we will have lost so much ground to the machinations of this administration, it may be too late. We need to throw figurative sand in the gears now. Start calling your congress people - if you agree. Impeach, convict, remove. Maybe the third time is the charm.
