It’s start time for the Rose Festival here in Portland — it runs (off and on) through June. There are a lot of events, but they’re spread all over the city and don’t necessarily happen every day. In fact, I believe the only thing that happens every day is the carnival.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

www.whatcanido.earth/... This site caught my eye because the ad I saw had the headline “The world won’t unf*ck itself”. This appears to be the header on their homepage. Check it out — it’s 30 days free and then either monthly or $20/year. It does look interesting.
From Allrecipes: Copycat Olive Garden salad. It’s the one item I’m really fond of on their menu.
What the Hubble telescope saw on your birthday.
I may have posted this one before: Chef John’s Drunken Noodles. What can I say? I like drunken noodles.
1440 is explaining the Internal Revenue Service.
From American Vinegar Works: Classic Mignonette for Oysters. Or a fancy take on sauce for fried fish.
Room for dessert.
From Brodo: Low-carb Pho
Intelligence evolved at least twice.
Dancing days of the Maya. The article is about performances developed after the conquest.

A fairly large number of authors seem to be offering their books — completed series, at least — at a discount on their own websites. I’m seeing a lot of ads on Facebook, and have actually bought some of them. The rest I’ve seen are too dystopian for my taste, and I’m absolutely certain I’m not seeing anywhere near the number of offers that are actually out there.
Two Necromancers, a Fortress, and a Titan is more than 1500 pages long. They’re finally getting to the actual war and there are about 10 major characters and four or five secondary ones that have to be followed at one point or another. There will be one more book, but I have no idea when it will come out.
I’m making actual progress on the housecleaning. Which is all I’m going to say about it for the moment.
Fireworks for about an hour Friday evening. I do believe the Rose Festival is starting up. Of course, I saw the notice about the trash cleanup downtown to get ready for the parades and the carnival setting up across the river, so I have more grounds than just the fireworks to think so.

Love you guys!
