Bug Brain Simple: The truly frightening fact [1]

Trump and the awful people he has empowered will do a lot of damage in the next three and a half years. And that concerns me greatly. But I am reasonable optimistic that after four years of chaos and ineptitude, we will throw him out again. And while I am concerned about the damage he will do in the interim, what truly frightens me is something we learned in the last election. Approximately 240 million Americans are eligible to vote. Only 75 million of these people voted for Harris. That means 165 million (over two thirds) of the people eligible to vote, did not think it worthwhile to vote to defend our democracy from an autocrat. Two thirds of Americans did not think it worth a little effort to prevent our government from turning into a criminal enterprise. Two thirds didn’t think it worth making a check mark on a ballot to ensure that decisions were made by experts rather than talking heads. In a world with thousands of nuclear warheads, many of them aimed at us, two thirds did not think it important that we be represented by the best diplomats available. Two thirds of Americans just don’t get it. That’s the simple fact. And that fact astounds me and terrifies me.
