There has been a lot of discussion around here lately about the root of our problems and the possible (but, sadly, very difficult) paths out of the fascist nightmare in which we find ourselves.

From the Boston Review is a very interesting take. Short version: the checks and balances designed by the Constitution’s authors create multiple choke points where determined (and well-funded) minorities can veto social policy supported by the majority. One of the cases discussed in the linked essay is universal health care.

Not sure who will read this but IMO, anyone interested in discussing the sources of our problems and the weaknesses in our system (which relies upon ‘good faith’ actors in positions of power) might want to check out this essay.
