The Politics of AI? I used AI to create an entire animated TV series--ethically [1]

Let’s Clear This Up: AI Isn’t Magic, It’s Math—And That’s Okay
First off, I hate the mislabeling of “Artificial Intelligence” when we’re really talking about machine learning. Let’s keep it real: ChatGPT is no more “intelligent” than my laptop. What it is—technically—is a Large Language Model, which is just a fancy way of saying it’s a supercharged algorithm trained to predict text. That’s not intelligence, that’s probability math. And if we’re calling that “AI,” then so is a Google search.
But the second people hear Artificial Intelligence, they freak all the way out. Suddenly, using AI tools means you’re “stealing” or “cheating”—especially if you’re a digital artist or writer.
Let’s break that down
I’ve worked independently as a creator for over 15 years. No studio backing. No big team. Just me, my ideas, and whatever tools I can afford. AI has been a lifesaver, not a shortcut, and has saved me money and time.
Thanks to AI, I finished Season One of my animated series Musik Luv Magick in just four months instead of six—without compromising my vision or bending to a studio’s demands. All nine episodes are now streaming for free on Fawesome (yes, there are ads, but no subscription needed).

Fair warning: it’s a mature series, so maybe skip it if your tastes lean more PG.
Is it a little rough around the edges? Absolutely. But I’m proud of what I created solo, and I believe as AI evolves, so will my storytelling. My hope is that my audience grows with me.
Below is a thoughtful review from Jayned Ahmed—a marketing friend known for his no-nonsense takes. I asked him to assess the series, and he didn’t hold back.
I feel empowered, and I can only hope AI’s filmmaking tools improve so I can finally take things to the levels I have always dreamed of—without studio execs breathing down my neck.
I’ll be releasing tutorials in the coming weeks to walk folks through my creative process—step by step. My goal is to show exactly how AI can be used by people who need help in reaching their filmmaking goals without harm to fellow creatives.
For those who are wondering, here’s how I use it ethically:
I apply AI to my own artwork —like a filter, not unlike a Photoshop action. It helps me push creative boundaries without copying anyone.
I use it to streamline repetitive tasks —like generating drafts or animating lip sync—so I can focus on storytelling.
I stay transparent. If I use AI in a project, I say so. I think all artists who use AI should do this and tell people whether their work is generated whole cloth or assisted, as my work is.
AI isn’t here to replace artists. It’s here to support the ones who’ve been overlooked and overworked. Those screaming to stop AI may hurt the people they think they are helping.
Let’s stop buying into the panic and focus on the possibilities while putting safeguards in place to stop bad actors and hamper theft.
**This is a post-note on the sound, as mentioned by Jayned. It has always been an issue as I am not a sound mixer and cannot afford one. I am currently investing in beefier sound cards and software in the hopes of making Season 2 even better! Stay tuned, and wish my series luck!
