PWB Peeps: World Turtle Day [1]

Hi, Peeps —

It’s World Turtle Day, so I did a little research.

BUT FIRST:

A gentle reminder of how we do things: 🐱🐶🐦 Do not troll the diary. If you hate pootie diaries, leave now. No harm, no foul.

Please do share pics of your fur kids! If you have health/behavior issues with your pets, feel free to bring it to the community.

Pooties are cats; Woozles are dogs. Birds... are birds! Peeps are people.

Whatever happens in the outer blog STAYS in the outer blog. If you’re having “issues” with another Kossack, keep it “out there.” This is a place to relax and play; please treat it accordingly. There are some pics we never post: snakes, creepy crawlies, any and all photos that depict or encourage human cruelty toward animals. These are considered “out of bounds” and will not be tolerated. If we alert you to it, please remember that we do have phobic peeps who react strongly to them. If you keep posting banned pics...well then...the Tigress will have to take matters in hand. Or, paw. According to Wikipedia: Turtles are reptiles of the order Testudines, characterized by a special shell developed mainly from their ribs

There are 360 living and recently extinct species of turtles, including land-dwelling tortoises and freshwater terrapins

Female box turtle

Turtles are "cold-blooded"- their internal temperature varies with their environment.

TX spiny softshell turtle — I’d go south if I were cold-blooded, too

They mainly feed on plants or animals with limited movements, like worms, larvae and mollusks.

Wikipedia: Many turtles migrate short distances seasonally. Sea turtles are the only reptiles that migrate long distances to lay their eggs on a favored beach

I didn’t realize that turtles make various sounds. Wikipedia says a study which recorded 53 species found that all of them vocalized. Tortoises may even bellow when courting and mating.

They come in a variety of sizes and shapes

They can live from 10 to over 150 years! And some are endangered, so let’s do what we can to keep them with us.

It’s also National Backyard Games Week, and boy howdy do our critter friends have a lot of celebrating to do!

“All I needs iz a BIG yard!!”

Masterful!

“All work and no play, Jack…!”

Of course we have our own playground…

Have a good Friday, Peeps!
