The Politics of Insanity [1]

The maladministration is imposing insane policies on the US.
Climate
The biggest FAFO is humanity not reducing carbon emissions. The last time there was this much carbon in the atmosphere was 14 million years ago. That’s twice as long as the time when our ancestors split off from chimpanzees. The effects of burning fossil forests far older than that are affecting all life on our planet now and are increasingly worsening. The only quick, reliable, scalable and relatively cost-effective solution we have is to convert to solar, wind, tidal and other non-carbon emitting energy as soon as possible.
Intentionally boosting carbon emissions, through more drilling, cutting fuel emission standards, deregulating pollution and reducing renewable energy at this time is not simply bad policy; it is insane. Removing the word “climate” from government when faced with a climate catastrophe is insane. Spending billions on projects that will be literally underwater due to rising seas is insane. Cutting weather warnings, forest wildfire control personnel and budgets, scientific research and international cooperation when our citizens are dying in tornadoes, whole communities are being burned to the ground, and tropical diseases are spreading into more temperate zones, is insane.
Economy
The US has been in debt since its founding in 1776, but we have always been able to pay by growing our economy and tax receipts. Choosing economic policies like deportations and tariffs that are guaranteed to shrink the economy, while simultaneously cutting taxes on those most able to pay, will make it far more difficult to continue paying the interest on our national debt. The interest on the debt is now a larger part of our budget than defense. Starting trade wars with every country on earth—plus penguins—when a significant portion of our debt is held by foreign entities, is insane.
All of our assets are measured in our currency, the US dollar. Taking actions to reduce the value of our dollar hurts all Americans. When people invest in stocks and corporate bonds, they provide capital for new business enterprises and jobs. When people buy US government bonds, they help our government sustain our national debt. But when people invest in Crypto, they help criminals evade arrest, sanctions and taxes, not to mention the carbon cost. Taking US tax dollars and investing them in a national Crypto reserve, especially when the President’s friends and family sell Crypto, is insane.
Government
The role of government is primarily to defend us, transport us, heal and educate people, and care for the elderly and people in need. Cutting government services for the needy is cruel, economically destructive and reveals a fundamental lack of understanding of why we have a government. Corporations have only one reason for existing: to make as much money as possible as quickly as possible. One more important role of government is to make sure that corporations don’t harm people in the process of making money. In the past, corporations have leached deadly chemicals into water supplies, released clouds of cyanide, destroyed coral reefs, created toxic fog and smog over cities, poisoned people with mercury, introduced microplastics into most living creatures, burned holes in the ozone, leaked radiation, made rivers burst into flames, filled oceans with garbage, and spilled oil, leaving dead zones. Despite dishonest PR, corporations are legally required not to care about humans—even customers—, unless they are shareholders. If it were legal, corporations would rob you of all of your money, enslave you, extract the valuable minerals from your body, barbecue you and serve you to other humans as ‘delicious organic protein’. Running our government like a corporation is insane.
Power
Abusing power to take bribes, order egotistical parades, subvert the rule of law, gaslight the media, threaten independent branches of government and independent agencies like the Fed, and bully people, is tyranny, which is what our country was founded to fight against. Electing a self-serving, corrupt tyrant to ‘make America great’ is insane.
Racism
Racism, sexism and other forms of discrimination have always held back a significant part of our population, preventing them from contributing to our economy and society to the best of their abilities. Correcting this harmful mistake has been the slow, uneven progress of our 250 year history. Expanding and advancing our society through both diversity, equity and inclusion and through diverse immigration policy grows our economy and improves our society across the board from arts to sciences. Removing words related to DEI from government is insane. Deporting black and brown refugees while encouraging white beneficiaries of Apartheid to immigrate here is racist and insane. Dismantling and refusing to enforce Civil Rights law is insane. Using the DOJ to benefit the privileged at the expense of those who are still discriminated against is insane. Restoring the names on US property of Confederate traitors who fought for slavery is insane.
Actively encouraging racism is not simply a bad political tactic. Racism is a corrosive, deadly force that weakens our society, shrinks our economy and reduces our achievements. Promoting racism increases cruelty, ignorance and violence. Discrimination destroys lives and crushes the hopes and dreams of young people. Choosing to advance discrimination and reverse decades of progress in Civil Rights at a time when our country is more diverse than ever before, is insane.
Conclusion
The maladministration is not sane. The policies they pursue are not merely bad, stupid, and cruel; they are crazy. The sooner more Americans realize this, the more united we can be to stop the insanity. Everyone who is still sane must publicly oppose these policies. Speak out. Contact your representatives. Protest.
