Ramaphosa Reminds Americans the Cost of Fascism [1]

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa is meeting with Criminal Trump, ostensibly to encourage trade between the countries. But Trump couldn’t help but bring up his claim that white farmers in South Africa are being killed, which reminded people of his attempts to shame Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently. (That had the effect of increasing Zelenskyy’s approval both in Ukraine and in the U.S.).
According to the BBC:
Unlike Zelensky, however, Ramaphosa did not lose his composure. He said he would address the American concerns. He denounced the "kill the Boer" chants of what he said were minority out-of-government parties. He referenced Nelson Mandela. And he brought in Agriculture Minister John Steenhuisen – who is white – to discuss how crime is a public safety problem that threatens both white and black South Africans.
When Americans hear Trump and his ilk talk about South Africa, the most important thing to remember are the years of apartheid, where the government tortured and killed untold Black residents of that country. This is what fascists want. They want to torture and kill people, and that’s what the fascists here ultimately want to do.
They’ve already started by sending captives to El Salvador where they are kept in facilities reported to regularly torture inmates. That’s contrary to our nation’s commitment to human rights and the constitutional prohibition of cruel and unusual punishments. It is flagrantly illegal.
Every time the Trump regime brings up these farmers, it’s important to be sympathetic to their plights, whatever they are, but it should also serve to remind us that racists are fascists at heart. They want to use their power to abuse and exploit others.
Every person who votes for a Republican now is supporting the fascists in their party. That makes them culpable, too. We should not let them off the hook.
As of this writing, there did not appear to be any story about this meeting on Daily Kos, but this is an important topic. Hopefully, there will be more articles about it.
