Evening Shade Seekers! Jumping the gun a tad, today is National Streaming Day. In it's honor, I'm going with a cinematic theme. First,
The Good:
Former Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms launches bid for Georgia governor. apnews.com/…
ATLANTA (AP) — Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms says her single term as Atlanta mayor gave her “battle-tested executive leadership” that she can offer to Georgia voters as she runs for governor. Bottoms, 55, officially launched her campaign Tuesday, becoming the second well-known Democrat to jump into the 2026 race. State Sen. Jason Esteves of Atlanta announced his campaign in April. “As we are facing the uncertainty and the anxiety that’s being created in Washington right now, I’m running to be a fighter for Georgia,” Bottoms told The Associated Press on Monday. “I want to be able to fight and deliver for our communities, whether it’s from expanding Medicaid, to delivering for our small businesses, to making sure that people have a pathway to vocational and career training or college,” she said. Bottoms and Esteves hope to succeed Republican Gov. Brian Kemp, who can’t run again at the end of his second term. On the Republican side, Attorney General Chris Carr kicked off his campaign in December, while Lt. Gov. Burt Jones is expected to announce that he’s running sometime this summer.
More Good:
The Bad:
x Rep. LaMonica McIver: "The charges against me are purely political—they mischaracterize and distort my actions, and are meant to criminalize and deter legislative oversight. This administration will never stop me from working for the people in our district and standing up for what is right."

x They’re charging Rep McIver with felony assault based on these interactions. Oh sorry. Ignore that last one. The person who did that was pardoned.

And The Ugly:
(The story itself is behind a paywall)
x BREAKING WAPO: The Trump DOJ is considering removing a key check on lawmaker prosecutions. Federal prosecutors across the country may soon be able to indict members of Congress *without* approval from lawyers in the Department's Public Integrity Section. www.washingtonpost.com/national-sec...

Moar ugly:
Busted: Trump pick caught following overtly sexual social media accounts. www.rawstory.com/…
President Donald Trump's controversial pick for commissioner of the IRS is now the subject of an investigation after a report exposed his social media account followed providers of mature and sexually explicit content. Trump nominated Billy Long for the IRS role, sparking debate over Long's past endorsement of tax-avoidance schemes, his ties to firms involved in tax credit controversies, and concerns about his qualifications to lead the agency. His nomination is pending Senate confirmation, and he is expected to appear before the Senate Finance Committee on Tuesday. But a new Rolling Stone report about his X account could complicate things for Long. The report uncovered that his publicly visible list of accounts he follows includes names such as Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, EPA head Lee Zeldin, Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency. But that's not all. His account "has also recently followed many purveyors of adult-themed content," the report said. "Some post content that is mildly sexually provocative. Other accounts post porn."
Forking hypocrites.
Oh, and from Long's confirmation hearing today:

Dumb and Dumber(er)
x Right now, RFK Jr, Rubio, Zeldin, and Kristi Noem are all testifying before Congress. It is simply impossible to follow so many hearings at the same time and unfortunate that they are all scheduled simultaneously. — Aaron Rupar (@atrupar.com) May 20, 2025 at 7:36 AM
x This can't be the "merit-based" hiring Trump's been talking about! 😂 Kristi Noem cannot answer simple, basic questions about the principles this country was founded on. It would be funny if it wasn't so embarrassing.

x DURBIN: How can we give hope to people across the country who are suffering from so many diseases when our government is cutting back on that research? RFK Jr: I do not know about any cuts to ALS research D: I just read them to you! R: I didn't know about them until you told me about them
[image or embed] — Aaron Rupar (@atrupar.com) May 20, 2025 at 11:57 AM
x Reporter: How can you justify cutting food assistance? Trump: The cut is going to give everybody much more food because prices are coming down..

Murder, She Wrote:
From the article. Trump admin permits sale of device that allows standard firearms to fire like machine guns. www.nbcnews.com/…
The Trump administration has decided to permit the sale of devices that enable standard firearms to fire like machine guns, a move that one person familiar with the matter said was “by far the most dangerous thing this administration has done” on gun policy. The Justice Department on Friday announced a settlement in a lawsuit brought by the National Association for Gun Rights. The lawsuit challenged an ATF rule banning “forced reset triggers” — devices that allow semiautomatic weapons to fire rapid bursts of bullets. “This Department of Justice believes that the 2nd Amendment is not a second-class right,” Attorney General Pamela Bondi said in a statement. “And we are glad to end a needless cycle of litigation with a settlement that will enhance public safety.” Vanessa Gonzalez, a spokeswoman for Giffords, the national gun violence prevention group led by former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, condemned the move. “The Trump administration has just effectively legalized machine guns. Lives will be lost because of his actions,” said Gonzalez. “This is an incredibly dangerous move that will enable shooters to inflict horrific damage. The only people who benefit from these being on the market are the people who will make money from selling them, everyone else will suffer the consequences.”

Sources contradict Trump narrative about Qatar offering plane as ‘gift’. www.cnn.com/…
The Trump administration first approached Qatar to inquire about acquiring a Boeing 747 that could be used as Air Force One by President Donald Trump, four sources familiar with the discussions told CNN. That’s contrary to the narrative from the president that Qatar reached out and offered the jet as a “gift” to him. After Trump took office in January, the Pentagon contacted Boeing and was told the company would not be able to deliver the new jets it was building to replace the aging presidential planes for another two years, the sources said. The Trump administration, however, wanted a replacement plane much faster, and the Air Force was exploring different options for doing so. At the same time, Trump tasked his Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff with finding a list of viable planes, a senior White House official told CNN. After the Pentagon’s initial engagement with the company, Boeing provided US defense officials with a list of other Boeing clients around the world with planes that could work in the meantime, three of the sources said. “And Qatar was one of the clients,” the second source familiar with the discussions said, adding the Pentagon “offered to buy the plane” and Qatar indicated it was willing to sell it. ✂️ In February, Trump toured the Qatari plane with some aides when it was at the airport in Palm Beach, Florida, near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort. Afterwards, Trump remarked on how luxurious the plane is to people around him, CNN has reported. Trump’s communications director Steven Cheung said at the time that Trump was on the plane “to check out the new hardware/technology.”

It's Ironic:
Supreme Court Won’t Take Up Case Because Too Many Justices Recused Themselves. www.forbes.com/…
The Supreme Court declined Monday to take up a copyright dispute case because it lacked a quorum after five justices had to recuse themselves, a move that was cheered by ethics watchdogs as the high court has repeatedly come under scrutiny for alleged ethics issues. The Supreme Court said Monday it would not take up the case Ralph W. Baker, Jr. v. Ta-Nehisi Coates et al, a copyright dispute in which Baker alleged Coates’ book “The Water Dancer” plagiarized Baker’s book “Shock Exchange: How Inner-City Kids From Brooklyn Predicted the Great Recession and the Pain Ahead.” The court said it lacked a quorum to hear the case, after five of the court’s nine justices—Justices Samuel Alito, Amy Coney Barrett, Neil Gorsuch, Ketanji Brown Jackson and Sonia Sotomayor—all recused themselves. ✂️ The justices who didn’t have ethical conflicts determined the case “cannot be heard” as a result of the lack of a quorum, meaning a lower court ruling against Baker will stand.

Brassed Off!:
Kraigo, fyi:
No Kimmel, no cry. Jimmy Kimmel canceled his whole show last night. ABC used a rerun instead. The reason: CNN’s Jake Tapper was scheduled as a guest to promote his book, “Original Sin.” The book paints Joe Biden as feeble, and a liar about his mental and physical condition during the 2024 campaign. But Biden just announced that he has “aggressive prostate cancer.” Kimmel, an avowed liberal and fan of Biden, obviously wasn’t going to go through with the interview. Tapper has yet to even offer Biden sympathy or best wishes. Online, Twitter is aflame with anger toward him and CNN for shilling for the book. www.showbiz411.com/...

Happy National Sugarbee Apple Day!
SugarBee® apples were developed by honeybees. One sunny day an adventurous honeybee was flying through the orchards collecting pollen. The bee transferred pollen from an unknown apple variety to a Honeycrisp apple blossom. Mother Nature did her part and the SugarBee® apple was born! SugarBee® apples are a naturally occurring apple variety grown in Washington state. Their crisp juiciness and honey sweet flavor provide a wonderful apple eating experience. In fact, they are perfect for snacking, baking, saucing, and juicing.
