Expectations & Young Blood
I’ve been trying to think of the last time I heard someone say that the Republicans need to appeal to a specific segment of the population. I mean the menace got around 20% of Black male voters and somehow that is considered as having reached Black men… but reaching 80% of Black men on the other side is considered losing the Black male vote because 2% more Black male voted for the menace.
I haven’t heard one single person say republicans should try to appeal to Black women… or LGBTQIA folks. Truth is, it is demanded that Democrats appeal to every segment of the population on every single issue imaginable and frankly that’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard from so called political junkies and professional analysts. There’s a famous cliché for that… “you can’t please everyone!”.
And it’s not from the opposition party, nope it’s our own having these expectations of our party as if by virtue of being democrats they were somehow imbued with superpowers. And invariably when Democrats fail to meet those impossible standards, well… they’ve failed, they are useless, they need to be replaced, change must occur, young blood!!!!!!.
Give it a rest. We need young blood (how vampirish does that sound by the way?)… what pray tell are Crokett, Underwood, AOC, Booker, Jeffries, 50% of the house democrats are under 60 years old. And half of those are under 45 years old…. What are we talking about here? Or do you want just 20-30 years old in congress? Youth is not a criterion of effectiveness by the way.
If there’s a particularly gifted young one running that’s one thing but wanting young blood for the sake of being young no thanks. I personally don’t want a bunch of young people running things (DOGE fiasco anyone?) I want a mixture of old and new, old for cunning and know how, young for new ideas and concepts. The thing is that is already happening the house is getting younger and younger, the Senate not so much but will catch up.
The democratic side of the congress has diversity and lots of it. That in my opinion is part of the reason certain types are distancing themselves from it… too many “others”, isn’t that sad? We have the house (on one side of the aisle) that most closely represents our citizenry and it’s scaring people off.
We really need to stop bashing our heads against the wall trying to figure out ways to “change” just to appeal to people who will not change a single thing about themselves to benefit the country. I do not want to appeal to republican voters, thank you very much. This will only serve to infect the democratic party with republican ideals and ideas and then where would we be? Since we are the ones changing to accommodate them and not vice versa?
I keep hearing we need to compromise, be less judgey… so throw trans folks under the bus? Immigrants? Civil rights? Women? Unions? Climate change? What exactly are we to compromise on when it comes to our stated values? When are we going to admit that it does not matter what we had compromised on, the elections would have still been lost, because people were not voting on policies? When are we going to face that truth?
Americans (by the majority) want the United States to be represented and viewed as a white country… that’s it. They do not want more diversity, more inclusion, more equality, they want less. I would have thought that was evident by the way they’ve been acting since the election, but we still pretending this ain’t some racial identity purity BS.
As I stated yesterday, no one can change people, they have to have their own come to Jesus moment and change themselves.
Does that mean our side of the aisle is perfect? No. Does it mean we shouldn’t change? No. But changing is not a policy. It is not the Democratic party’s fault that people are not voting democrats… and we need to stop blaming them for things that are not within their control.
