Bug Brain Simple: Selling Manhattan for a bauble [1]

According to the old story, Dutch settlers purchased Manhattan for $24 worth of baubles and beads. More recently it has been argued that the transaction was not this straightforward, and we don’t know what actually happened back in 1626. But this time, it’s playing out on live TV. Some sharp traders from across the ocean heard there was a new chief from Manhattan who is easily attracted to shiny objects. They just happened to be paying storage fees for a gaudy $400 million white elephant sitting at an airport. They waved the shiny object in front of the chief and the rest will be history.
