The Citizens of the United States of America have a right to applaud themselves for having given to mankind examples of an enlarged and liberal policy: a policy worthy of imitation. All possess alike liberty of conscience and immunities of citizenship. It is now no more that toleration is spoken of, as if it was by the indulgence of one class of people, that another enjoyed the exercise of their inherent national gifts. For happily the Government of the United States . . . gives to bigotry no sanction, to persecution no assistance.

That Mr. Trump is who we are supposed to be. We have not always lived up to it as we should, but never until you has the Government pursued the exact opposite with such vigor and hatred. I would call on you to feel shame at your destruction of such high principles, but, as you have none, I cannot.
Perhaps some of those who do your bidding are not yet beyond the reach of redemption. I humbly ask those who read this to pass it along to any who need reminding that the United States has, never has had, and should never have any laws that promote one religion above any others.
