In search of Absolution [1]

The elections were on November 5th, the new president was installed on Jan 20th, today is May 16th, and today a lot of people are searching for absolution for their abysmal choice on November 5th, or for their comments and conduct prior to said date, as they bear witness to the resulting destruction.
Everybody and their mama, are digging new routes to bypass the road they travelled on prior to Nov 5th, in order to escape meeting their own selves and facing the truth of their past actions. After all, no sane person wants to admit that they had any part in helping this administration gain power, so it must be someone else’s fault.
We’ve all seen and heard the myriad of excuses of why the Dems lost. We’ve seen the doctored autopsies of democracy’s death. Let’s pretend for a few moments that these excuses were true (most of them aren’t) but let’s pretend… and then ask yourselves…. Did they or did they not know, what the alternative was? I’m not talking maga here, I’m talking about every non maga who voted for the fascist, voted 3rd party or stayed home. (this is who the “you” refers too)
Biden was senile he shouldn’t have run… Did you still know what the alternative was?
Kamala focused on culture wars too much… did you still know who the other was?
We shouldn’t be arming Israel… yes, but did you still know what the alternative was?
The messaging was bad…. But did you still know what the alternative was?
They didn’t talk to young people… did they still know what the alternative was?
They didn’t “hear” the message… did they hear the alternative?
They “forced” her on us, no primaries…. You still knew the alternative right?
It was the economy…. But you heard the alternative plans right?
The message delivery wasn’t effective…. But you still knew what the alternative was right?
Harris was a woman, she was Black, not Black enough, etc… etc… etc… … but you still knew the alternative right?
See, my problem is you can come up with any excuse under the sun, analyze the results by one strict criteria, as to why people didn’t like Kamala or Biden or Democrats or the Agenda… I’m still going to be saying… but you knew what the alternative was right? Because, by god neither he, nor his water carriers, hide his intentions. He bragged about what he was going to do, he flaunted it in our faces, he screamed it at his rallies, the media covered it ad nauseum, as did every commentator, streamer, influencer, tiktoker, youtuber remotely interested in politics.
He spent over 10 years talking, publicly and shamelessly revealing himself to you. You knew he was the snake. You knew he was vile. You knew he was repulsive. You knew everything single detail about him. But here you are trying to convince yourselves that your choices made sense and were rooted in some kind of moral high ground, when you were just standing on a pile of fertilizer.
The truth of it is, in the end it is the non maga folks voting for maga or staying home, knowing who this man was, knowing what happened last time, knowing about jan 6th, knowing about his trials, knowing about his impeachments, knowing about his convictions, knowing about his plans for Gaza, knowing about his deportation plans, knowing about his tariff plans, knowing about project 2025, knowing about who he planned to appoint, knowing absolutely everything about this man, who still voted for him or didn’t vote knowing there was a big chance, it would help him win…
I get it, you in your heart of hearts, didn’t think he would win (lots of you)…. Because you though well “it’s just one vote” I’m just protesting, even though you also knew “every vote counts”… so lots of you voted out of anger, bitterness, grief, and stayed home for pretty much the same. You took a risk, you gambled with our lives and we all lost, we lost the presidency, we lost the senate, we lost the house and we lost our democracy… because yeah we are not in a democracy right now. Democracy is on life support or in a coma, and we don’t know if it’s going to rebound or if we should be planning a funeral.
Now you are feeling some kinda way about it, guilty maybe I really don’t know, some may and some may not, but you don’t want to look at yourselves too closely in the mirror right now, because as pure as your motives may have been, you still knew the cost, you don’t want to carry the consequences though, you don’t want to feel guilty so you’re looking for absolution, anywhere and everywhere for another reason why we lost.
The burden of guilt is heavy, thus you’d like to pass it on to someone else, anyone else. You can’t possibly be even partly responsible for this debacle. You need absolution, for us to tell you that no it wasn’t you, it was this or that… no it was you. We all had concerns, we all had our disagreements, we all had things we wished were different, but some of us realized that in the moment the greatest danger to our country and even maybe the world was letting this man get elected, while you didn’t give a damn, because you wanted to teach the democrats a lesson, to teach Kamala her place, for them to earn your vote, for whatever to whatever so you could pound your chests…
So spare me the theatrics and false analytics… we all know why the patient died, who killed it and how they killed it. No mystery here.
