Black Exhaustion [1]

Dear racist white people, I heard that you are suffering from Black Fatigue that’s a shame. We Blacks have passed fatigue some years ago and are now dealing with Black Exhaustion.

We understand Black fatigue, it is hard having to hear about another unarmed Black person shot in the back for a traffic stop. Or to be told that no, once again your Black colleagues will not be getting the same wages as you. That the mortality rate for Black mothers and infants has once again surpassed yours even though they are but 13% of the citizenry.

We’ve been there, at fatigue. The soles of our feet raw and bleeding from protests and marches for equal rights… with you. It’s hard, we understand. By the time you get to exhaustion, we’ll probably be at some other point in our journey, still searching for that fabled land we once heard about, the land of the free, where equality reigns supreme. We’ll save you a place.

For now we are exploring exhaustion. Where our young Black children at shot for ringing a doorbell, another arrested handcuffed and put in a police car for peeing in a parking lot, where a man can kneel on another’s neck for over nine minutes until he dies, but have people tell us it wasn’t murder.

We’re sorry our progress towards equal rights and protections has been so slow, it too 400 years to free ourselves from the chains of slavery, then we had to face this thing called Jim Crow and Segregation, separate but equal, our towns were burnt our people lynched, it just slowed us down so much. But we finally got civil rights at least in writing that was just about 60 years ago… your parents they will remember, they were there or maybe yourselves?

Unfortunately, there’s been some backsliding on that. Some people got upset that we were getting to fast to equality and being treated as Americans, ouf… they did throw a tantrum, now even more roadblocks have been put in our path. But don’t you worry none, your side of the path is still clear, no roadblocks, matter of fact I think they even provided you with some fast moving cars, teslas I believe they are called. Say… why don’t we use your side of the road? No?

Do I think your Black fatigue is going to end soon? Well no, we still got a long ways to go, and since we’re on foot, I’m afraid you’re still going to hear a lot of discontent and gripe about racism and white supremacy and its consequences. Mind you things would go much faster if y’all decided to stop being racists… but we know you don’t have it in you.

No need to explain why, we understand… I mean how much endurance can one have when there were not many obstacles in their path… on the other hand we had to be all kind of creative to clear them obstacles, that’s why we so creative and strong and resilient, endurance grows when you’re always struggling. It’s just a fact of life don’t be jealous, you could join us in moving obstacles and you’d build up some endurance too… no? All right.

Well enjoy your stay in fatigue land, I hope you brought some food and stuff… cause it’s gonna be a long good while. How long? Don’t rightly know, cause you see… it all depends on how much longer y’all plan to be racists for? Cause us? Once we get real equality and start being treated as real Americans we’re good.
