The token has quickly become a cultural and economic phenomenon, attracting traders, meme enthusiasts, and Trump supporters alike. But crypto analytics platform Bubblemaps flagged “suspicious trades” on the meme coin, pointing to addresses that scooped up millions of dollars of the token in its first minute of trading.
Why launch a meme coin?
Meme coins are powerful tools for community building and viral marketing. The TRUMP token is part of Trump’s broader embrace of crypto and digital merchandise.
What Is TRUMP? Donald Trump’s Official Solana Meme Coin Explained - Decrypt Here is the source of this information:
There's more though: $140 million has been spent by buyers of this meme coin in order to snag an invite to the White House for dinner with the President of the United States. Anyone other than me see the massive influence peddling this insider invite creates?
And this: A tiny TikTok creator company with no revenue and ties to China plans to buy $300million in Trump’s memecoin Trump's crypto dealings weigh on Senate's stablecoin bill However, this meme coin venture is nothing compared to the launch of the Trump actual crypto currency: There are multiple stories on the crypto currency problems created by having the president of the United States as one of the creators of this new business. I've scanned several pretty good reads on this. Here's one that made the most sense to me (I'm not well-enough informed to try to navigate and explain this myself), but I do know that this business has the potential for myriad conflicts of interest internationally on both economic and security grounds.
But wait. There's more. And these may be even worse.
Going to list them here--there are so many for us to deal with:
1. How about Dubai, which is the United Arab Emirate's commercial hub. And where a very pricey and valuable Trump International Gulf Club is now in place? Oh, and with a new addition: a Trump International Hotel and Tower, which will be a luxury complex attracting the richest of the rich in the Middle East. (This Tower is valued at ~$1 billion.) And get this: anyone wanting in will be able to use Bitcoin payments, and with the hope of course that they use the Trump crypto currency (World Liberty).
2. A Trump International Hotel in Oman. Scheduled for completion in December 2028. And this influence connection: Oman was the nation that helped broker the nuclear talks between the USA and Iran. This has to be suspiciously transactional: business conflated with international security and political talks. How could this be good for America?
3. And then there's Qatar. Again. A few weeks ago, Trump org. declared that there was a new $5.5 billion development in the works near Doha, to include a luxury golf course resort that includes Trump-branded beachside villas. A plane. A resort. Crypto currency in the mix. Given that Qatar has been a major supporter of both Hamas and Hezbollah, this level of Trump business mixed with Qatar's interest and involvement in two of the world's worst terrorist organizations cannot be good for America. (Plus, although Trump cannot himself be involved in running any of the myriad business interests his sons and friends are putting together, he has not extricated himself from profiting off of their labor and deals. So what could go wrong for America when our international policies and his profits don’t match? Tongue-in-cheek here.)
4. Saudi Arabia. Where to start? How about Golf courses? But bigger? How about $927 billion in deals struck just the other day--some of it for the sale of weapons ($142 billion). Some of it for trade deals. Some of it for development projects. And redux: crypto currency in the mix. Not my label: Presidency or Profit?
Then there's Turkey, Serbia, and even Russia. Which requires at least another article. For now though, if the cliche, business and pleasure are not great partners remains true, then tell me, where do business and international politics, policy and security fit here? How can any of this, never mind the hydra headed business monster Trump is creating, be good for America and its interests? And what happens to us when these worlds collide? As Beau of The Fifth Column used to say, "It's just a thought."
