What these Hogg diaries fail to acknowledge- Race on the left [1]

1. The essence of the vehement criticism of Hogg is what he says but also what he doesn’t say which permeates the left wing of the party. The analysis is complex and nuanced when many want easy solutions. Well, there are none. We are going to have to dig deep and find ways to move America forward.
2. Hogg and progressives want to control the party and they want to do it via coup rather than by the ballot box. They want to push in the new without any dissemination of who is qualified and who is not. They are trying to demonize seniority without looking at who can serve well and who cannot.
3. The introspection of the Democratic party is not all bad on how can we improve and get more votes. All of these things can be true.
4. Just because we need to think about and strategize does not mean that Hogg and those who are aligned with him are the answers. He is 25 and has thin to no experience at anything. People on these pages are falling all over himself to excuse his behavior. He’s a grown man and I am holding him accountable for what he says. An online following does not a leader make. We are down now, and it is easy to jump on any boat that looks promising. But this Hogg boat may cost more than he brings, to mix my metaphors (?) His ability to bring younger voters to the polls is not proven and he may cost democratic votes from black and brown communities.
5. Lots of Democrats are uncomfortable and do not want to be a party where black and brown people are leading voices at the table. Period.
6. There are various ways this unconscious bias and conscious racism are evident but unspoken. These democrats keep talking about winning back the white votes. Sometimes they say working class with the “white” being silent.
7. Mind you the majority of the white vote has been gone for decades. A majority of white voters deliberately voted for instability, chaos and promised cuts to programs that provide a safety net. They voted against reproductive freedom and education for their children. Thinking that these people will vote for any democrat is a losing proposition. They voted for someone who disastrously served before and I have little faith that they will ever see the light.
8. The left, including Hogg and others make their contempt for black and brown communities known in other ways. They speak of only addressing economic and class inequities that align with economic distress that the right talks about. They ignore systemic racism, intersectionality and the fact that there is a two tiered society based on race. This is well researched and backed by data.
9. Moreover, the attitude of Hogg and his ilk is directly, condescending and downright disrespectful. They don’t acknowledge the centuries of hard work that these communities have put in to gain political power and incumbency. During the last and next primaries they insist that SCarolina does not matter because it’s a red state. As if Iowa was more representative. Or maybe just the right type of people are represented in Iowa. I even heard some left wing talking heads saying that SC voters didn’t really understand what was in their best interests.
10. Why is Hogg’s attention centered on black leaders despite protestations to the contrary? Why is clyburn the lead?
11. The language and people the left fronts to speak to communities mimic the right. Rappers (killer Mike), ineffectual polemics (Nina Turner) are used to interface with black community which completely ignores that the black community do not embrace these spokespeople.
12. I could go on but, I’ll conclude some democrats want to succeed by winning back a white coalition and feel uncomfortable with a diversifying nation and marginalized communities wanting a seat at the table. Hogg represents one, but by no means all of the democrats moving in ways that undermine shared leadership. Ignoring and not talking about race and ethnicity and how they underlie our current state of affairs will ensure that democrats will continue to struggle to win.
