Stop the Lies: White South Africans Are Not Victims, and Trump’s Racist Agenda Must Be Called Out

Let’s be clear: White South Africans are not under siege. They are not being hunted. There is no “white genocide.” That toxic myth, one Donald Trump eagerly amplified, has no basis in fact. What it does have, however, is a long and ugly history rooted in racism, white supremacy, and political manipulation. And Trump, ever the opportunist, has never met a racist dog whistle he wouldn’t blow like a foghorn.

A few year ago Trump tweeted about “large-scale killing of farmers” in South Africa, parroting propaganda pushed by white nationalist groups and alt-right media. He didn’t consult with experts, South African leaders, or even his own intelligence agencies. Instead, he spread dangerous disinformation designed to paint white people as the new victims, an absurd reversal of reality, especially in a country still healing from the institutional violence of apartheid.

Trump's interference wasn't about concern for human rights. It was about weaponizing race, again. It was about fueling fear and resentment among his base in the U.S., many of whom are steeped in the same myths of white persecution and cultural decline. Trump has done this before. He launched his political career by attacking the legitimacy of the first Black president. He called African nations “shithole countries.” He referred to neo-Nazis as “very fine people.” His record is a greatest-hits album of white grievance politics.

But South Africa’s struggle is not Trump’s playground.

Yes, the country faces challenges. Inequality, poverty, and land reform are real and pressing issues. But solving them requires a commitment to truth, justice, and collective progress, not imported racism masquerading as concern. The idea that efforts to correct historical injustices amount to “anti-white racism” is dishonest and insulting. It’s a slap in the face to Black South Africans who endured decades of legal, social, and economic oppression under apartheid, and who still face the consequences of that system today.

The future of South Africa lies in unity, not division. White South Africans are not being erased; they are part of the nation’s fabric. Many have chosen to contribute to its growth and transformation. They deserve safety, respect, and opportunity, just like every other South African. What they do not deserve is to be cast as either villains or victims in someone else’s political circus.

Trump is not interested in justice. He’s interested in fueling the fires of white fear, because that’s what keeps his movement alive. But we must call it what it is: race-baiting, plain and simple. And it’s dangerous, not just in America, but wherever his influence spreads.

South Africa doesn't need Trump’s lies. It needs healing, fairness, and truth. That includes treating all of its citizens, Black, white, and otherwise, with equal dignity. The real danger isn’t land reform or economic redress. The real danger is the global normalization of racist propaganda dressed up as political commentary.

We’ve seen what happens when lies go unchecked. We’ve seen what happens when people like Trump are given platforms to spread hate. We can't afford to let it happen again.
