By Ed Pilkington, The Guardian, May 12, 2025 Top Democrats in the US Senate are pushing for a vote on the floor of the chamber censuring Donald Trump’s reported plan to accept a $400m luxury jet from the royal family of Qatar for use as Air Force One and later as a fixture in the Trump’s personal presidential library.
That’s your answer? A vote to finger-wag? To a fascist “president” taking a massive bribe from a fundamentalist religious oil kingdom, with lying justifications from the fascist “attorney general” and “secretary of defense.”
In 1930s Italy or Germany, would you have censured Mussolini or Hitler? They would’ve been very taken aback, I’m sure.
No, explicitly call upon your House colleagues to introduce articles of impeachment for Trump, Bondi, and Hegseth. Add it to the already-lengthy list of grave offenses against the USA that each in themselves merit removal from office, for our own good. Force House floor votes with privileged motions. Ratchet up the public pressure for when the next even-more-vile Trump regime abuse of the country hits the news. Build the public expectation that Trump & co. must go.
Congressional Democrats, stop pretending that you don’t have official or public persuasive power… and in fact (supposedly) solemnly sworn obligation. You act as though the 2024 election cancelled your oath of office. January 2029, or even November 2026, is far too late—we need you to act now, in the precious few months or even weeks that we have left before the terror is total.
It should be the open objective of the Democratic coalition that Congress remove the Trump regime from office for cause, for the good of the country. As it stands, they’re clearly telegraphing that they are against that… no matter how bad it gets. Even as Trump and fellow fascists take us into openly murderous white Christian supremacist rule (and oh by the way environmental doom for eternity).
Impeach. All of them, for everything.
Or go home. And stop lying that you’re actually resisting rather than making pretend that this country still has functioning politics, thus quieting the public alarm that we need in order to stop this lawless madness.
