The King of the Alligators Was Never Going to "Drain the Swamp" [1]

In the recent US presidential election, it seems that a large group of voters voted for an outlaw politician in hopes of getting some unspecified advantage like “greatness.”
When a recently convicted felon with losses in civil court for fraud and abuse of women is voted in as President, his supporters become at least partially complicit in his past crimes and corruption.
These voters were proud to vote for a leader who would be in jail had they not given him a reprieve by voting him into the nation’s highest office.
In casting their vote for him, doesn’t it sound like they made themselves part of a criminal conspiracy to help him avoid punishment for his crimes?
Many voters gave the President a second chance because they hoped to share in the spoils from his corrupt financial practices. Such practices were obvious to all who took a small amount of time to examine his history in business and with the legal system (he lost a great many of the 4,095 lawsuits he was involved in).
Somehow, they thought that only others would be negatively affected by turning the US government into a family business and a means to punish enemies. They expect to win some economic or emotional advantage as they satisfyingly watch immigrants, students with loans, black people, government employees and dependents, non-Christians, progressives, and many of their neighbors lose power along with their civil rights.
But Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, Food Stamps, the Affordable Care Act, FEMA, the NIH, and countless other programs that help average citizens all appear to be on the chopping block so that there can be an extension of the 2017 tax cuts for the wealthy.
The “day one” promises of the President were empty.
Peace between Israel and the Palestinians did not occur and the hostages remain with Hamas. Putin’s war is ongoing with no end in sight. And now Pakistan and India are a new flash point that has added to world chaos.
“Day one” promises of prosperity turned into confused tariffs, import-export chaos, continuing inflation, devaluing of the dollar, discussions of invading Greenland, Mexico and the Panama Canal, rationing of children’s dolls, and calls for ”sacrifice.”
But Mexico never paid for the wall and none his fans seemed to notice.
A famous line from the movie Animal House describes the situation. If Republican politicians as they face irate voters at Town Halls were honest, they would repeat Flounder’s line from the movie: “You fucked up. You trusted us.”
And if people change their minds and want to protest federal government actions, even the fundamental freedom of speech is threatened by masked federal “security” personnel who answer only to the chief alligator and his swamp friends in ICE and the Justice Department. They provide security primarily for their repressive government that wants to outlaw criticism of the swamp leadership, and not for the people who elected them.
The alligator-king is looking for every loophole in law he can find to eliminate habitus corpus, free speech, the free press, and university autonomy as he ceaselessly promotes oligarchy – a system that has zero interest in benefiting anyone besides the wealthy and powerful.
So, congratulations to those who voted to massively enlarge the swap, keep the alligator-king out of jail, and give control of the government to this narcissistic swamp dweller.
Your conservative dream is quickly becoming a nightmare for all of us, yourselves included.
