Mom in 1947 High School Yearbook [1]

This newly discovered (by me) photo of my late mother shows her in her 1947 high school yearbook. She is sixteen in this photo, probably only a few months from dropping out as a Sophomore.

I had been looking for her photograph in Salinas High School yearbooks for a long time. As I am a substitute teacher and have occasionally been assigned to Salinas High, I contacted the current Yearbook advisor, who looked through old yearbooks but found no photos. Mom likely didn't have a portrait, as they were poor, and this was part of a large group, with her only being labeled "J. Dewolfe" in tiny letters, so I understand how it was missed.

When I first saw this image, I wasn't sure it was her, but as I looked at it over a couple of days, I realized I could clearly tell from her face it was Mom. I never saw her wearing a hairdo like that.

I have no other picture of her in her teens. I have childhood photos, a baby photo, and some as a young adult and beyond. This is a unique photo. I notice that she is holding hands with a girl next to her labeled "C. Cox", whom I have no recollection of my mother mentioning. I wonder who she was to my mother, and if she might still be alive to ask. Mom has been gone for 31 years, so I can't ask her.

Even after all these years, I still find more about my late mother.

Do you have a teen picture of your mother? Post in comments.
