I’ve alternated between my nose buried in books (yes, multiple — frequently more than one at a time) and checking the news online. Oddly enough, my blood pressure has been going down.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

Foraging in the city
According to Martha Stewart: mistakes to avoid when cooking lamb.
I’ve seen this in several places around the internet: California is now allowing indigenous cultural burns.
Dump and bake chicken cobbler recipe
From National Geographic: the Hittites
Real Simple’s egg substitutes
Also National Geographic: photographs of fungi
Food & Wine has opinions on Trader Joe’s cheeses
What makes music universal
The Thames River is one of the cleanest running through any city in the world now. Here’s how it happened.
I’ve signed on at dekleptocracy: Here’s something recent about the El Salvador situation.
From The Guardian: a rhubarbarella cocktail
We have more power than our kleptocracy wants us to believe. This one is from Democracy Docket.
Ten predictions for the future
Another one from The Fucking News — this one is mid-April. I don’t think the author is, in general, a fan of Harvard.

The first step of getting the issue with my mother’s estate finalized went fairly smoothly last Wednesday. I have to go back to get the cashier’s check on the 16th. I texted my niece with this information and she said that it was fine.
The whole situation is annoying. My sister thinks I’m annoyed with my niece — nope. Haven’t been seriously annoyed with her since my girls stopped coming home asking if they could kill her this time please. What’s annoying is that the last time I had to do something like this, endorsing the check over was sufficient — now they require a cashier’s check and the annoyance is $8 worth.

Yes, but. Yes, but. Yes, but.
I’m not Catholic. I’ve never been Catholic. The old man who abused kids where I grew up wasn’t Catholic. He probably never even considered trying for me or my siblings — my father had a well-deserved reputation for protecting his kids.
The monster in the White House is of far more concern to me than the new Pope. This does not make me callous — this makes me somebody who only has so much energy, and I put a fair amount of time in dealing with kids and young adults who had been sexually abused when my girls were in their teens. I believe I’ve told several stories about half the walking appetites on Hollywood Boulevard.
It’s time for me to concentrate on other things.

Love you guys!
