White supremacist administration in action [1]

All you have to do is look at today’s stories on the New York Times webpage to see a white supremacist administration in action. In addition to his non-black cabinet, we have Trump seeking to limit efforts to eradicate racial discrimination against non-whites:

President Trump has ordered federal agencies to abandon the use of a longstanding legal tool used to root out discrimination against minorities, a move that could defang the nation’s bedrock civil rights law.

In an expansive executive order, Mr. Trump directed the federal government to curtail the use of “disparate-impact liability,” a core tenet used for decades to enforce the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by determining whether policies disproportionately disadvantage certain groups.

Even providing internet access is “racist” against whites according to Trump:

President Trump on Thursday attacked a law signed by President Joseph R. Biden Jr. aimed at expanding high-speed internet access, calling the effort “racist” and “totally unconstitutional” and threatening to end it “immediately.”

In reality, the law barely mentions race at all, only stating that racial minorities could be covered by the program while including a nondiscrimination clause that says that individuals could not be excluded from the program “on the basis of actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, or disability” — language taken from the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

However, if he could, Trump would repeal the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

And, apparently, the Librarian of Congress was fired because she happened to be black:

The Trump administration fired the librarian of Congress, Carla D. Hayden, on Thursday, drawing swift outcry from Democrats. Dr. Hayden was the first African American and first woman to serve as the head of the institution.

And as the article notes:

A push to purge references to diversity and inclusion led to a page on Jackie Robinson’s life and military career temporarily vanishing from the Pentagon website. Arlington National Cemetery web pages highlighting the graves of Black and female service members disappeared. Books including “To Kill a Mockingbird,” the novel by Harper Lee about racism in the Depression-era South, were purged from schools run by the Defense Department, according to a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union.

And to top it off, we have this:

The Trump administration is working to bring the first group of white South Africans it has classified as refugees to the United States early next week, according to officials briefed on the plans and documents obtained by The New York Times.

Although the president halted virtually all other refugee admissions shortly after he took office in January, his administration hastily put together a program to allow in white South Africans, who he claims have been the victims of racial persecution in their home country.

Despite all this, the reaction by the Congressional Black Caucus and leading civil rights organization has been surprisingly understated. Especially compared to prior Republican administrations such as Nixon’s and Reagan’s, which did far less egregious things. The firing of the librarian is arguably the least egregious item on the list, yet it seemed to elicit the greatest reaction. Where’s the outrage?
