How long are receipts valid for? [1]

Often I see, old posts and clips brought up as evidence that someone is this or that, and it sometimes it takes me aback, because some receipts are older than Moses! Don’t we want people to change stances (for the better)?.
I myself have always been pretty open minded, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t had to changed my minds on things. Particularly, as I often talk about, those preconceptions and stereotypes that I (we all) grew up with. In my case concerning the LGBTQIA community, I quite clearly recall saying in a conversation “if gender is a social construct how can a trans person claim to be born that way?” I also in my youth thought being gay was a choice, hey I’m a product of my time and cultural biases too! Do I get a pass because my statements were not made on social media or via video clips? (now they are lol)
I don’t recall knowingly knowing anyone who was gay let alone a trans person when I was a child or teen or young adult, it wasn’t until my late 20’s I think that I started meeting people that were openly from the community. (I’m 58 so about 30 years ago). Doesn’t mean no one around me was LGBTQIA, it just means they were not out because of the times.
Of course, as I grew older, read and got more involved into social issues, I learned, my mind opened some more and I stopped saying inane things (for the most part, I’m sure I’ve said incorrect words and phrases that I don’t know about yet). But now with social media it’s hard for even regular people (non-famous) to escape past stances. Someone will always come with the receipt as they say.
How long are these receipts valid for? How does one evaluate if someone’s change of heart is real or a grift? My personal option has been a combo I look at the person’s current actions/stance and the age of the receipt. It’s not a perfect system, but I can’t focus on something someone said 20 years ago to make a judgement call today, unless that person is still saying the same things of course. In short the older the receipt the more I give the benefit of the doubt.
People can change, they can change; hearts, minds, stances and opinions.
