Putin, Gerasimov and Kim Jong Un were definitely premature in announcing to the world that Ukraine has been pushed out of all of Kursk. They wish.

Ukraine never left. Not completely. They used the time while they controlled Sudzha and points beyond to shore up their defenses and to create a cordon sanitaire just inside the Russian border with Ukraine’s own Sumy oblast and parts of Kharkiv oblast as well.

The securing of Ukraine’s northern flank is ongoing and is critical to prevent Russia from re-opening another major front. Just today Ukraine announced that after months of protracted battles, they have managed to recapture the tactically and strategically important Lyptsi Forest area, pushing Russian forces further from Kharkiv:

Ukraine's Defense Forces reclaim 200 hectares of forest in Kharkiv region after five-month battle Ukrainian Defense Forces have carried out a large-scale operation in the north of the Kharkiv region, successfully liberating 200 hectares of forest near the settlement of Lyptsi, the 13th Operational Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine Khartiia reports. "The offensive lasted five and a half months - the operation began in November 2024. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the units, the enemy was pushed further away from Kharkiv, and control was restored over a strategically and environmentally important area," the statement says. During this time, the enemy suffered nearly 1,500 casualties (killed and wounded), lost over 200 pieces of weaponry, and 175 units of equipment. newsukraine.rbc.ua/...

So when the news came that Ukraine has launched an advance into Kursk’s next door Belgorod oblast then most recently another left hook into Kursk via the Russian border town of Tetkino some observers commented that these movements by Ukraine amounted to nothing more than “raids” to cause trouble then quickly retreat. Not so. Besides border protection, there are valid strategic reasons why Ukraine is doing what it is doing across its northern border region with Russia. To wit: “Ukrainian Security Service Colonel Roman Kostenko says that the strategic task of Ukrainian units is to stretch out the Russian army's actions and prevent it from transferring reserves.”:

Ukrainian forces disperse Russian troops on Kursk front — Ukrainian colonel "In some areas near Kursk, we are holding the line and stopping the enemy from entering our territory. In others, we’re counterattacking. All actions in Tyotkino and the Belgorod region aim to seize the initiative in directions where there’s no fighting yet. The goal is to force the Russians to spread out their troops so they can’t gather them all in one place and push us back. This should block the occupiers from continuing their offensive in the Sumy region," the colonel said. According to him, the key task of Ukrainian forces is to stretch Russian operations and stop them from moving reserves.(emphasis mine) "Russian troops have a few options. We see they’re trying to form pincers to break into the Sumy region. If they see it’s not working, they’ll go defensive along the border. Then the units they free up could be sent to the Pokrovsk, Toretsk, or Kostyantynivka directions. We can’t let that happen, so our command is spreading their forces thin by making them react across the whole front. That’s the goal of what’s happening now," Roman Kostenko explained. global.espreso.tv/...

ADAPTIVE INDOMITABLE UKRAINE is up to and equal to Russia’s game. If the Russian game all along was to stretch the Ukrainian forces over a nearly 700 mile long battle trace hoping for the Ukrainian defensive rubber band to snap somewhere(as it did in Ocheretyne right after Avdiivka leading to the rapid advance on Pokrovsk) then Ukraine, too will stretch Russia’s rubber band in order to force Russia to keep significant reserves in Kursk and Belgorod regions to protect its flank in that area. Reserves which could otherwise be used elsewhere against Ukraine.

SLAVA UKRAINI ! PEREMOHA(Victory)!!
