Americans are aghast at the State “one girl, two doll” mandate of the Trump administration. Every single one of us is clutching our pearls and glued to media hoping Christmas isn’t ruined, worried that our children will never recover from the trauma.
No, we are not.
Trump is an idiot and I refuse to credit him for the current tariff distraction. Those behind him, however, are not all idiots. America’s largest voting bloc are still those 45-64 year-olds and they don’t really care about a doll shortage or even the underlying poverty wage manufacturing jobs Trump wants returned to our soil. But that’s the current focus of tariffs on Chinese imports. There is no real outrage or calls to protest because Barbie may have to do without her Corvette. Want people in the streets? Start talking about what that aforementioned age group really worries about — healthcare.
The amount of pharmaceuticals, PPE, and medical supplies imported from China is staggering. Upwards of 90% of ibuprofen alone comes in via Chinese shipping. At least it did. Grandma MAGA may still get her insulin via Germany (at a newly tariffed price) but she better start sharing needles because those are Made in China. PPE? Be a hell of a time for a bird flu epidemic.
