Top Comments: Crowdsourcing My Reading Challenge [1]

['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.']

As my fellow bibliophiles know, I’m obsessed with the Popsugar Reading Challenge: 50 books in a year, each in a random-ish category. Some categories are easy to fill (“a book published this year” is almost always on the list), and sometimes I stumble across the right book (a book featuring a food truck was already on my TBR list — what are the chances?). And then there are the others.

But first, a word from our sponsor!

Here at Top Comments we welcome longtime as well as brand new Daily Kos readers to join us at 10pm Eastern. We strive to nourish community by rounding up some of the site's best, funniest, most mojo'd & most informative commentary, and we depend on your help!! If you see a comment by another Kossack that deserves wider recognition, please send it either to topcomments at gmail or to the Top Comments group mailbox by 9:30pm Eastern. Please please please include a few words about why you sent it in as well as your user name (even if you think we know it already :-)), so we can credit you with the find!

Can anyone recommend a good book that…

..has a snake on the cover or in the title?

…is about a cult?

..is considered “healing fiction”? (I’m still not totally clear on what this means.)

..has a happily single woman protagonist?

..is set at a luxury resort?

..has a title starting with with “Y”?

..includes a nonverbal character?

..is made up of interrelated short stories?

..is about a nontraditional education?

..is about an immigrant or refugee? (Might go with The Good Immigrant , or Djinns , which was enthusiastically recommended by RickBoston.)

, or , which was enthusiastically recommended by RickBoston.) ...is dystopian, but with a happy ending?

There’s also a category for “a book about an item on your bucket list.” Unless there are any good novels about hang gliding, I’ll probably just go for something set in Spain or Australia. Or maybe a book about being a NYT bestselling author?

On to Top Comments!

From inkstainedwretch:

On slipperyone's diary about yet another leopard eating the faces of Leopards Eating People's Faces Party voters, Captain Frogbert sums it up pretty succinctly. Cap'n F's first three words were "With minimal effort". Too many of us have an arrogant laziness that refuses to make an effort. [Note from Tara: see also the response from cassidy3, highlighted by sweetthesound and NolongerRepub.]

From belinda ridgewood:

In today's Abbreviated Pundit Roundup by Greg Dworkin, the discussion turned to trade policy, and Ranglinlover2 walked us all the way from the nonsense coming from the White House to the seldom-heard reality.
